Re: Leroy is really hurt. :( Anterior Cruciate Ligament

My Buddha Bear has had this surgery in both of his back legs :( I feel for you all. But I'm happy to say, he has recovered very well and runs around the back yard like crazy now. His last surgery was this past March. The lack of bowel movement is likely due to the pain medication and common, I've he...

Re: Adjusting to New World

The children are actually my roommates neices and nephew; ages 10-14. And they will be visiting weekly. I sat them down and gave them a Chow Talk, and they behaved very well. Buddha gaves kisses to the girls! I just worry about the transition for him to a new home, he ate yesterday which I took as a...

Adjusting to New World

I have turned Buddha Bear's world upside down :( Dealing with separation from hubbie, and poor Buddha has been shuffled a little. However, we are now settled down into a new house, and he has the biggest fenced in backyard he's ever had. He's loving it and seems to be adjusting very well. I even had...

Re: Here we go again: 2nd torn ACL!

Quick update, it's been BUSY! So we are 6 weeks post surgery all is well =D= His physical therapy lady loves him and said he was such a friendly and handsome Chow, of course I agree! He was a perfect angel with her... letting her move his legs around and do some cold laser therapy, I was very proud ...

Re: Funny Chow habits

Buddha sits and watches TV with us. Sits in the same spot, or my spot if he beat me to it and stares at the TV just like we do. He also talks. If we try to ignore him he starts making strange noises, growls or funny sounds until we say the word of what he wants, then he jumps up and wriggles around ...

Clinging to Me and new Storm Fear

So, Buddha has recovered from his fourth knee surgery very well \:D/ However, I over babied him prior to this last surgery and during recovery, b/c I felt so bad for him. Now, he growls when we go to bed, which turns to barking. Frequently the only thing that stops him is for me to sleep on the couc...

Re: Here we go again: 2nd torn ACL!

We went and got the sutures removed by the surgeon yesterday =D= Buddha so happy to be rid of the horrid lamp shade \:D/ He is doing very well. They gave him a bad rep with his first visit - he got nippy when they tried to take his tempurature (I wasn't there to tell him it was okay) so he got red f...

Wow! You have so much going on! Hope all is going well, sounds like our chowlings had the same type of surgery only a day a part! Hope you're Dad is doing better. I have been down that road with my Mom, she had COPD and emphysema, and was only 65, so full of life but her lungs were not up to par. It...

Sorry about the incident, but next time please do not let them play in the snow knowing ab out the ramifications. Nice insult. You know since I have come to this website I have found everyone to be very supportive, helpful and undertanding. To think that you would think I would put my dog in danger...

Re: New Chow Owner and Wanted some tips

Buddha is my 3rd Chow, but the first one I've had as a pup. I highly recommend some puppy socialization classes, and general obedience. It will do wonders for both of you. Be sure to ask the trainer if they have dealt with Chows and what their opinion is of them. Our first class the vet tech teachin...

Re: Here we go again: 2nd torn ACL!

Buddha seems to be progessing normal, but he has Mom wrapped around his little paw! I slept on the couch until my hubby got home last night, then once he came to bed, Buddha started pacing and growling and whining, so I hit the couch again. He doens't want to be left alone. I wish he could come to t...

Here we go again: 2nd torn ACL!

Hi all! I've been super busy with life and Buddha! Been trying to keep him calm with it being so cold in Ohio - really bothers his arthritis. But on 1/28 he was playing after the snow melted and slipped  Finally got into the surgeon Monday 2/8 and just like I thought, he tore the ACL in his ot...

Re: Help with Knee Problem-Torn Miniscus

Well I spoke with the surgeon...she said that it could be that his arthritis is just that advanced (he's only 2 1/2), so we could end up doing surgery only to find that the meniscus is not torn. So we are going to play the waiting game, and he'll tell me when it's time for surgery, I hope. So he tak...

Re: Help with Knee Problem-Torn Miniscus

Thank you! That was very helpful. Good to know that the surgery isn't as horrible as the first one from the ACL tear. I think I'll call and leave a message for the surgeon this morning with an update on his condition and see what she recommends.

Help with Knee Problem-Torn Miniscus

We're at it again with Buddha and his knees! He was in a great deal of pain, so back to the surgeon we went for a check. She said that she thinks he has a tear or rip in the miniscus (sp) in his left rear knee. This knee has had a surgery for a luxatting patella over a year ago, and a torn ACL this ...

Thank you! I never thought of probiotics...I take them myself! He is feeling better, and the foul smell is gone. We go back to the vet soon to have the wound checked to see if it needs sewn up. He is turning into the million dollar baby!

Dermatitis around lips in skin fold?

So Buddha had this horrid stinky smell coming from his mouth. Teeth looked great, then finally I found a cut along the line of the fold of the outside of his lips. Went to the vet, she said it was infected and the gash was so bad it had to be stitched back together. She told me it could happen on th...

Re: Protectors of their home

When I was fortunate to have two Chows in my home, they were grandma, and grandson. The female was ALPHA! There was no question who was in control of her house  He learned to respect her dominance and gaver her the room she insisted on. It cracked me up because he was larger and younger, but te...

Okay, vomiting is not good. Could Yogi be in any discomfort? Buddha had a torn ACL and I didn't know until he starting throwing up. That's what prompted me to get him to the vet. Maybe there is more to this, maybe he's trying to tell you something? Panting, pacing and vomiting can frequently mean th...

Did you by chance have a storm or rain come in that night? I've had Chows that act weird when the baramoter drops. My most recent chow did the same thing at about 10 months old. I was like you and wasn't ready to trust him alone in the house, well not alone, but with me in bed. Any way he worn me do...

I've been in the same spot, and it's not fun. I finally convinced my husband we needed to go check out the breeder to see if it was something we would consider in the future.
