Re: Wet grass

Yay for McKenzie! I started paying attention to every movement while she was outside in the morning and got the idea that she thought that I didn't want her to step on the grass. She doesn't like being at all dirty so she figured that I wouldn't either? So I started stomping around on the wet grass ...

Re: Day-to-day Chow Chow costs?

Well I just adopted McKenzie 3 weeks ago. Here's what we've spent so far: $65 adoption fee (plus gas to drive 4 hours each way) $165 vet (exam, antibiotics for URI, eyedrops for gooey eyes, heartworm test, 6 months of heartworm prevention) $30 on food $15 on treats $8 slicker brush $20 collar and le...

Re: Jewels' bad Spay

I know EXACTLY how you feel. The same thing happened to me with McKenzie. We drove 4 hours each way to get her and I specifically asked them about her health. They told me she had no signs of entropian, hip dysplasia, or heartworm or anything else. When I got there she was all of a sudden a light po...

Re: Oh the horror

I read your post and wish I could help but due to my allergies when I was a kid, I completely lost my sense of smell so I have no idea when anything stinks. I've seen dental cleanings being offered at my vet, have you researched that at all? I wonder if she could have a cavity or something weird lik...

Re: Vibrant Pets

I can't say that I've tried vibrant pets but the humane society did shave McKenzie a week or so before I got her. She had those black scab like things on her elbows and patches where no fur had started growing back. She also had other patches where the fur was hard and spikey, like it might actually...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery

The humane society's vet did her spaying. She has about an 8 inch scar. She doesn't care if anyone touches it or anything which I thought she might be sensitive about. I just thought it seemed rather large and ugly. I think this vet will do a much better job than the humane society's. Wow I can't be...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery

Thanks. I know she'll feel much better after, I'm just going to be really nervous next Thursday and am trying to plan some stuff to do to keep myself busy. So Annie got both eyes done? McKenzie only has this tiny little part that rubs her eye so I'm not sure if he's going to do the whole eye just in...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery

To anyone that's had their dog go through this before: 1) How can I tell if she's in pain afterwards or should I just keep her on the pain meds just in case? I don't like giving extra meds but I'm thinking she will at least be sore. 2) I'm assuming they're going to shave part of the right side of he...

Re: Wet grass

She doesn't go in her own yard. We have a cul-de-sac at the end of the street. It has a paved sidewalk and about 3 feet of grass on one side of the sidewalk and a bit more on the other side. So I walk her down there all the time to potty and at the beginning of every walk. There are about 10 dogs th...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery

Yeah, I was hoping that it was something just stuck in her eye but nope. The doc said I could do the surgery whenever since it only sometimes hits her cornea and I was like well that's pretty uncomfortable isn't it? He said he would think it felt like a piece of sand in her eye. I was like okay then...

McKenzie's entropion surgery

So after looking and looking at McKenzie's eyes a few days ago after realizing that the eye drops weren't helping (her eyes are still gooey and she closes them and wipes them with her paws A LOT), I asked the vet about it at her check up today. The URI is fixed, and he said her potty habits are okay...

Re: Wet grass

She's already housetrained, she just holds going potty for up to 2 days when the grass is wet. The vet said as long as she pees once a day and poos at least every 2 days, it's okay. The antibiotics worked for the URI but the eye drops didn't help at all and the little clump of eye goo that I thought...

Re: Wet grass

just to clarify---- I am not saying Mckenzie has a UTI now but not peeing every morning and holding it could cause UTI. Chows are very stubborn about wet grass and wet ground.all my Chowboys have been fine its just the girls that give me a problem. good luck at the vet :D Oh yeah, I knew you weren'...

Re: Wet grass

Yeah, we're going later today to the vet. I have a list of things to ask him about. We really love her and she's doing so well there are just these things that seem so odd to me. The vet is going to think I have munchhousings or something, lol. I doubt she has a UTI because she just finished her ant...

Re: Wet grass

Maybe I was just too spoiled with Baloo. He peed on cue, would shake the excess water off him on cue, etc. It just kills me that I can't even pull her onto the grass to force her into slowly getting used to it. We have tons of land two lots over from us but nothing is fenced in so she's always on th...

Wet grass

Sorry to be asking so many questions lately but I have another one. So here are things McKenzie will do: 1) Hold going potty for 36 hours rather than step on the wet grass 2) If I try to urge her onto the grass with a treat or by just trying to continue to walk so far that she'd have no choice but t...

Has anyone ever seen or done this before?

So there's this lady at my work that I just thought made and ate lots of different casserole dishes since I always saw this casserole like dish in the microwave (which she covers with papertowels). So I just always thought it was odd that she didn't transfer the leftovers into a smaller dish to brin...

Re: Jewels from Dayton, WA

Well what seemed to work with McKenzie was I noticed that she loved walks and she never pulls on the leash so I just left the leash on her around the house and everything the first couple of days. I'd pick it up and bring her out every few hours the first few days because I noticed she really enjoye...

Re: Whining

Alright, I guess I'll just take it as a personality trait. She's still only barked once and gets skiddish around loud noises, especially outside. She whines at the weirdest times, sometimes when I'm petting her, other times as if just to get my attention. She did it this morning. She sat at the fron...

Re: Mia and Chutney were in a Dog Show!!

Way to go! I'm glad she put those people in their place. There's a lady like that in Kenzie's training class. She kind of freaked out and started telling everyone in the class that Kenzie is a killer last week because after 45 minutes of her french bulldog jumping at and on top of Kenzie and pawing ...
