training & certification as service dog

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas.

Does anyone know of where I could get my chow girl trained and certified to be a service/companion dog? Has anyone on here done this with their chow?

I live in San Francisco.

Thanks,
cher

Re: Help with an over-protective chow chow

Hello, Just wanted to report back after my dad's visit. Moomba was an absolute angel. I took many of your suggestions, let her meet my dad again in a neutral location then went up to my condo, had him give her plenty of treats, showed her that he was someone special to me so not be afraid. She was u...

Re: Help with an over-protective chow chow

Chris, so wonderful your chow is now 15. I know Moomba will mellow with age but she is definitely now in her terrible 2s. And yes, I would love to have a cat but won't take the chance since I cannot monitor her 24/7 and my place is too small to put them in different rooms all the time. Bummer. Thank...

Re: Help with an over-protective chow chow

Thank you everyone! These are really wonderful suggestions. I have been doing some of these tips already but I can see from all your posts that I have not been vigilant enough and staying on top of her. Moomba is a tough cookie. She is definitely a "growly girl". If she does not like someone for wha...

Re: Help with an over-protective chow chow

Thank you for responding Loha's dad. The problem is my dad will be actually staying in my small SF condo for 2 days with us. I do discipline Moomba but I'd like to know the appropriate way to handle her acting up with someone staying in what she thinks is a home she owns.

Help with an over-protective chow chow

Hi, I am asking for advice. My chow chow Moomba is extremely protective of me towards other people, which is great in the sense that I feel very safe with her but...in my home she does not want anyone to come in. If someone comes in (like a date or friend) it is just to pick me up and we leave. If a...

Re: Chow verses the pit bull

Hi, Came across this while searching for an old answer to a question I had posted months ago. Yesterday Moomba was attacked by a pit at a fenced in dog park. As soon as I let her into the park a pack of dogs with a dog walker started going after her...I thought the normal hazing to the new girl but ...

Re: First time long car ride for Moomba...HELP!

Thanks everyone for all your great advice and suggestions! The window thing is very important and also that I keep her somewhat restricted with her seat belt. I looked up the Rescue Remedy Pet, this is exactly what i was looking for, thanks so much. We'll see how this goes, no doubt I'll need a stif...

Re: First time long car ride for Moomba...HELP!

Hi Kingalis, I actually do take her in the car often but not for very long rides, at most 40 minutes. I have a seat belt for her that connects from her collar to the seat belt but she still manages to go all over the place, leaning out the window, standing up on the seat, she is very fidgety. I can ...

First time long car ride for Moomba...HELP!

Hi, I am driving with my chow girl Moomba (17 months) to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving, about a 9 to 10 hour car ride. Can anyone suggest something to give her preferably not a tranqilizer but maybe something non-medical to calm her for the ride so sleeps for most of it? My last girl Chaka was an absol...

This is beautiful, thank you for sharing. It is so difficult to deal with the loss of fur babies who were so special in our lives. I still struggle 5 weeks later and miss my Chaka desperately. I wish you strength and peace.

Re: Growling at people in elevator, barking in hallway

Boogie's mom, the chain leash is a good idea. I have been doing the high pitched "OWS" but as you stated should be much louder and more consistent. Sometimes things happen so fast I do not react quick enough and feel overwhelmed. She is definitely a defiant toddler, but the aggression needs to stop....

Re: Growling at people in elevator, barking in hallway

Thank you all for your comments. I actually have her in a gentle lead harness and collar that hook on her chest. She gets the leash very easily even if I hold the leash straight up. The crating, yes I have a crate that is used as her penalty box. I only use this method if she gets aggressive with me...

Growling at people in elevator, barking in hallway

Hello, I am fostering a 5 month old chow puppy. I have had her in my home for 1 1/2 weeks. She has made tremendous progress in many areas, like potty training, commands, walking on leash, not jumping on counters...all things that were issues when she first walked in the door. However she has aggress...

Thank you all so much. I know time will heal. It is just so painfully lonely right now without her and I cannot make this time pass quickly. She was my world, my baby, my best friend, my soul mate.
