Re: *UPDATE* Zoe Attack 18 Days After
I suppose one reason why I love Chows so much is that they're very much like my Arabian horses. Extremely intelligent, can be stubborn, but affectionate and loving if you respect them and treat them as the loving creatures they are. I had my endurance mare for 14 years...lost her to kidney failure a...

Re: Tail wagging
Berkley wagged his tail a lot. I think it's because he was so happy to be out of that crappy shelter, have good food, new friends and this dumb woman who was absolutely madly in love with him. He wagged a lot, really fast, whenever I'd talk to him. Fozzie is much the same way, but even wags his tail...

Feeding Chow pups
I need some advice and wanted to ask some questions about feeding a Chow pup. As far as I was told, Fozzie was not given any puppy food at all, and was fed adult food from the time he began eating dry food. Someone mentioned that his lack of nutrition may be one reason why his little ears didn't sta...

Re: Feeling Helpless
Oh, Jacqui. Your post comes at such a strange time today. After I took Foz to my regular vet for his neutering, I later had to take my young Golden Retriever to HER vet in the city. She also has an auto-immune disease called masticatory myositis. It attacks the muscles in the head and jaw and if not...

Anesthesia-Fozzie follow up
In my post about getting Fozzie neutered today, I expressed concern about anesthesia since many Chows don't do well with it. Jeff posted the following critical info, which I think all of us should use whenever our Chow pups need surgery. I grilled my vet this morning when I dropped Mr. Foz off to ma...

Re: Almost a disaster!
I agree with Jeff. The second time I took Berkley to the vet, there was another "customer/client" waiting outside with a young Pit. If any of you remember, Berks was labeled "dog agressive' after being put in a shelter cage with a Pit, who got the better of Berkley. I was still pickin...

Re: Fozzie says: "Nuts to YOU!"
Jesus, Jeff. This information is awesome. I hope that all who own and love their Chows will take heed of these tenuous procedures (anesthesia for surgery of any kind) in our Buds. It doesn't seem to matter what the surgery, we should all be aware that Chows, for the most part, do NOT tolerate anesth...

Fozzie says: "Nuts to YOU!"
My little Fozzie-Bear (sent by angel-Chows Wally and Berks) goes in for his neutering tomorrow (Wednesday). He's such a joyful little guy; so happy and exuberant. I hope this doesn't affect his personality over the long haul. I get all my dogs neutered or spayed at 6 months, because it helps them li...

Re: Berks and Wally have sent...
I guess you were all right...Fozzie really is huge. He'll be 6 months old this Saturday and I took him to the vet to get his second round of puppy shots this morning. Got him on the scale and he weighs 51.2 lbs. The way I figure...by the time he's a year or so old, he'll be one of those Chow tanks a...

Re: Chow with kids a good mix??
I think you will find that your Chow will protect and give his life for your son if that situation ever arose. I wouldn't worry for a minute. Actually, you've made an excellent choice in a dog that will stop at nothing to protect your boy.

Re: jade crossed
It's always such a horrible shock to take your Chow kid to the vet and find out the worst news. That's what happened with Berkley, and he died right there. I'm so sorry to hear about Jade. I know how painful this time is, and will, be. It never seems to matter how much time passes...we never forget ...

Re: Smurf crossed the Bridge this afternoon
Oh Carolyn...I am SO sorry to hear about Smurf. This was probably the last thing you needed breaking your heart. Know that we all have favorite Chow pups ready to greet her at the Bridge and to help show her the ropes. My heart breaks for you. Please know that I'm thinking about you and hoping that ...

Re: Berks and Wally have sent...
I guesss all my other dogs are so big that Fozzie doesn't seem so huge. But once everybody here kept talking about how huge he was, I started looking at him in a different way. It's hard to believe he's only 5 months old! He really IS huge for his age. Even Wally, who weighed 82 lbs. when he was you...

Re: Berks and Wally have sent...
Back recovery has been slow, but I have to admit having Fozzie here has helped me mentally a lot. The incision is 6 inches long and 2 inches deep, so it's healing on the outside pretty well, but inside, it pretty much sucks. Sore as hell. He keeps me moving around and just having him here is so wond...

Re: Berks and Wally have sent...
Fozzie just gets cuter every day. He LOVES his new buddies and seems so happy just to hang out with all this room to run. He's quite the ham for taking photos, too. He'll actually pose if you want him to. Ihave to say, he is the most lovable and affectionate little Chow. I thought Berks was a lovey ...

Re: Berks and Wally have sent...
I just can't stop taking pictures of my beautiful new boy! Fozzie Bear has come into the house just like Berkley did. smooth as silk, no trouble with the other dogs, the cats or the horses (still getting used to their size, however). He's so loveable and, like Berks, none of that aloof Chow stuff. H...

Berks and Wally have sent...
Thanks to someone I hope will be a lifelong friend, she helped Berks and Wally send a new pup to me. It has been so hard losing Berks so soon and the new pup makes me feel better already. Meet 5 month-old Fozzie Bear who came home with me just last night after a long drive. I had planned to sleep ou...

Back surgery...oh my
I'll be out of the loop for a few days...I'm having some major back surgery for a severly herniated disk tomorrow (Monday morning). I still haven't been able to bring Berkley home, but hopefully my husband can pick him up at the vet's office in the next couple of days. I wish Berks had been here for...

Re: Chow Rescue Youtube Video
As I watched this, all I could do was think of Berkley and all the others rescued on this site lately, and how hard we crazy rescuers work to save one at a time. Berks may only have been with me with a couple of months, but I wouldn't trade those days for anything. Beautiful work, Sandy. Exceptional...

I am still waiting for Berks to come home. I called the crematorium today, but didn't get to talk to anybody. He's been gone for two weeks now and just wish he could come home. Also, I have to go into the hospital on Monday for surgery; my 5th major back surgery in about 4 years...another herniated ...

Hey Jeff...she's doing zoomies now because she can SEE!!!!! Terrific!
When I had Berks'e eyes done, he just plain FELT a lot better. Entropian can be very painful and our Chows (dogs) can withstand a lot. But, when we solve the pain, they're like new souls. This is just great news!
