Re: Merlin Breaks out of Jail
Christine... I remember that day I waited for Berkley to land. I thought I'd have a stroke. Once I brought him home, he walked around for two hours, checking everything out. Then I talked to Jeff on the phone for about an hour and I was just as tired as I'm sure you are! But listen, he's there now! ...

Re: New Private Pilot
Awesome! I remember what my brother went through when he went for his pilot's license. But I just have to ask this...does this mean you could help FLY rescued Chows close to where you are?

Re: Berkley & Merlin & Jeff
My post was for EVERYONE who's ever rescued a dog of ANY breed, and in particular our poor little Chows. It amazes me how little people really know about them and how bad their reputation has become. I mean, they're not pit bulls! (Although pits have probably the WORST reputation and most are real s...

Berkley & Merlin & Jeff
So, two wonderful rescue stories in less than two weeks, thanks to Jeff and crazy people like me and Christine who are willing to fly them over the miles at great expense just to save them. For whatever "issues" some of you may have about Jeff, I don't see some of you who complain about hi...

Re: Berkley's Rescue Update
It's the flash. His tongue is as purple as it gets...no pink spots either. I'm looking forward to his coat growing in, but for now, with summer coming on, it's probably a good thing the shelter "groomed" him. Also, when his eyes improve, he won't look so sickly either. He just gets happier...

Re: Berkley's Rescue Update
The more Chows, the merrier, but I think I'd probably get arrrested as a hoarder with that many critters!

Re: Animal Planet - Groomer Has It
Adopt-A-Chow LA is the rescue that gave Jeff and I such a hard time about Berkley. If it had been up to her (Joan), Berkley would be dead by now. Like I said, the Chows in the shelters are in greater need.

Re: Animal Planet - Groomer Has It
Actually, if they were going to groom Chows who really needed it, they'd go to the shelters in LA. If those poor things looked good, they just might get adopted.

Wow...I just paid about $600 to rescue Berkley. Asked for donations, too. None forthcoming and I'm obviously tapped out.

Berkley's Rescue Update
It's been 10 days since Jeff put Berkley on the plane to New Mexico and he started his new life with me, Randy and our critter family. He is the most loving and gentle soul I could have hoped for. Affectionate, grateful, sweet. How this boy ended up at an LA kill-shelter after probably weeks on the ...

Re: Berkley's One Week Anniversary!
We now know another personality trait about Berkley. Since he's an LA dog, he most likely isn't used to thunderstorms. We had a whopper last night in the middle of the night, complete with lightening, thunder, rain and hail. I thought Berkley would have a stroke. I was dead asleep and all of a sudde...

Re: Berkley's One Week Anniversary!
Even though we're at altitude and we do get plenty of snow in the winter-time, Spring can be very dry and horribly windy which dries everything out. But, we do grow a lot of stuff and the Spring rains are beginning now...like today. Our garden provides our entire neighborhood with several varieties ...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
Today, for some reason, Berkley has not left my side. He seems to be feeling a bit better and he's now on a food schedule, although I'll put some food out for him intermittently during the day, just to see if he'll eat. He's regularly drinking his water and appears to be feeling more and more comfor...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
I hope Victory doesn't mind my copying part of a PM I just sent, but it really explains how I feel about Berkley and the problems we're facing... I think part of our issues are sticking with the rules. Berkley just doesn't know them yet, but he will with time. I've spent my lifetime learning to be p...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
Let me be clear. I'm not going to get into any of your pissing contests. I am posting because I just took this poor little Chow in who was scheduled for euthanasia TWICE. He has spent the worst two months that any dog could endure. I am taking ALL that into account. I appreciate suggestions and advi...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
I have NEVER yelled or raised my voice at Berkley. I know that doesn't work with Chows. And further, when I took Berkley, I made a commitment. He is not going ANYWHERE. Ever. That's the commitment we make to all our critters, dog, cat or horse. I've been feeding and putting up with this nasty Arab m...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
Three strikes. In five days. Berkley decided to take Randy on last night when he was begging and Randy barely nudged his chest to push him away. Berkley instantly snapped and when Randy stood up over him (Randy's 6'2"), Berkley growled and bared his teeth. You don't want to know what Randy said...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
Yes, that stride. Now that he's feeling better, I can tell he thinks quite a bit of himself. You know, I almost wonder, since he was an older intact male and is so bratty, that maybe he was used a a stud. We talked about that here the other day. I mean, he's a PB, he's a brat, he only wants the expe...

Re: Berkley Crashes Today
It's just so odd that he only snaps if I ask him to do something he doesn't want to do. Like HE'S the boss and won't take any crap off ME! Hello? I'm the human. I'm the one with food and water. I'm the one with hugs and pats. He doesn't care. At least he didn't last night for the second time. So, we...
