How to change feeding schedule
We have a 5 year old black chow, who is on a routine with my stay at home wife. He gets feed at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm then goes out about 45 minutes later. The wife is leaving to take care of my mother, I work an early shift and leave the house at 5 am. I can't change my shift and I don't want to star...

The Bulldog blew her left acl (same as a ccl) we had the surgery to put in pins an a band to stabilize the knee. 9 months later she blew the other knee. I did a lot of research the first time and even more the second time and had no operat...

Rex and Spring
It has finally warmed up and stopped raining so we took Rex out in the front yard for some different exercise. He was having a ball chasing a flirt pole I made for him. It's just a broom stick with a hole drilled in it, some twine, and one of those toy animals with no stuffing. It really gets his pr...

Re: chow skin problems
Check your chow's diet, could be a food allergy. Also add some omega-3's to her diet. Ours didn't have any problems and had a good coat but adding fish oil made the coat real shinny and soft.

Re: RE TRAINING
You are experiencing the terrible two's in dogs, this is when most are turned into a shelter because they are so full of energy at are into everything. Start by having a routine, drain the dogs energy with walks. Give him things to chew on, so he doesn't chew on your shoes etc. Start with the basics...

Re: Post surgery help??
Hi, We have a Chow and an American Bulldog. Our AB blew out her left rear ACL and had surgery. The site seeped for about 2 weeks. Realize that all staples and stiches due is hold the incision closed. The skin has to actually grow together to stop the weeping. As long as the discharge is clear our pi...

Chows and Flirt Poles
Rex has started having fun playing with a flirts pole. Got the idea from bulldog forum for his sister Mollie. I brought a broom handle at Home Depot and some cord. Drilled a hole and tied a skunk toy to the other end. The skunk toy is the one with no stuffing or squekers. He loves chasing it. Anybod...

Nice pictures. Not to hijack the thread, but I see you have hard wood floors. How do they stand up to the Chows? How often do you trim their nails? Thanks.

Re: New Chow Puppy
Hi everyone it's been along time since we have been on the forum. Would like to update everyone on Rex, he is still a sweetheart but has taken on a very stubborn streak lately. I do believe he is in his teen years. If we tell him no he will turn his back on us or go into another room and sulk. A few...

Re: Chow-compatible breeds?
My grandson has a staff pitbull that comes and visits and they get along great. We have an American Johnson Bulldog that gets along great with Rex. Each dog is an individual, breeds are only tendancies of the way they act and most about how they look. So don't look for breed look for compatible trai...

Re: adivce with new baby comming soon
Since our children are grown have not had to go through that. Did see an episode of the dog whisper on the same topic. Basically you need to create a boundary around you and the baby. Have the chows stop at the doorway to the nursery, have then give you space when you are holding the baby so you don...

Re: KODA - Our final goodbye.
We know how you feel, we are only 2 years away from losing are companion dogs that were with us for 16 years. We sometimes call Rex and Mollie by Sassy and Natty. The hurt is to remind you that you loved them so much and that they or he loved you that much also; and that you will find another member...

We feel your pain and applaud you trying to place Koda in a good home and just not discarding him. I know you said you want to meet the family he goes to but if all else fails we can take Koda. It is just me and the wife the kids are grown and only one lives in the area. We are experienced dog peopl...

Re: How to find a qualified vet
I am sorry for your loose. I would have a serious talk with the owner of the vet clinic and the words law suit would come up; you shouldn't have to put up with malpractice. I would ask them what would prevent them from making the same mistakes again and why should I let you care for something that i...

Re: Today is a sad day.. :(
Sorry to hear about Koda. I am not trying to pry into your family, but if your daughter and other children are about 5 or older you can have them help train Koda to learn his place in the family. Of course you will have to be at her side to keep her safe. Have your daughter become Koda's world. She ...
