Hi Zoey here, I dont mind a bath so much. I'll walk into the shower when told and I even give kisses while I'm being lathered up. I get one about once a month I'd say, or when I've been naughty and digging. Im getting a little more tolerant of the blow dryer. I used to bite at it! The best part thou...

Thankfully, in LA we don't have a lot of thunder and lightning storms. So it's no so much the storms that are a problem. It's her obsession now with any source of light flashing in the house. That last storm we had really lit up the house in the dark (it was about 3 am). We turned on a flashlight th...

scared of light (reflections)

Several weeks ago we had a lightning storm. We got woke up by Zoey who jumped in bed shaking like a leaf. We didn't try to console her at all, just let her stay on the bed until the stormed had passed (about 20 mins). Well, now she is terrified of any light reflections in the house. If we bump a lam...

Jeff, I remember you mentioning those biscuits to me before when I asked about teeth cleaning. I haven't got around to trying them, but may do so soon. I ran into the Nutro rep at Petco the other day and he swears by them too. The tarter biscuits. He has a couple of golden retrievers and says his ve...

Zoey's cleaning went really well. She spent most of yesterday at the vet's resting. I'm so relieved to have it all done! She's gonna love the canned food for the next few days. She coughed thru the night, and a little this morning though. I called the vet and they say that can be normal due to the b...

I wish she was a chewer, she just isn't. I gave her rawhides a long time ago and it caused her to throw up white frothy stuff for days. I guess she couldn't digest them. I've given her some chew bones from Nyla bone, and a few others. Her teeth aren't horrible by any means, I just don't ever want th...

Nervous about teeth cleaning

Im taking Zoey in on Weds to have her teeth cleaned under anethesia. I've been putting this off for about 4 months because Im really nervous about it. I did some research and found you can have it done for as little as $150 and over $300. Im going with my reg vet who charges more (over 300). Differe...

My chow puppy was and still is a little shy. I wouldn't nuture the shyness ( ie, telling her "ohhh it's ok"). I've read that doing that will only make the puppy feel this behavior is ok. Just handle her a lot, try to engage her in play, have lots and lots people meet her and handle her. I ...

Zoey has been called a samoyed and a polar bear too. And Chingers, I have had so many people lately tell me I'm not a chow too! It kinda irritates me. I always get "oh, she's definately not full chow", or "chow and what else?", or the same you've heard "chows don't come in t...

If she has bad reactions to vaccines, I wouldn't do it. Do the titer testing first as Ginger Baby suggested. I just did this with my year old chow. Ended up she didn't need any boosters, just the rabies per state law. It was kinda pricey though, 70-80 dollars if I remember correctly. My sister took ...

I have read that the noses on cream chows always turn color. Zoey's is pretty dark but not jet black all over. The very edges look dark brown. Maybe she's not purebred like they told me. :?

Zoey is 38 lbs and eats 2- 2 1/2 cups a day. I try to feed her 2 meals a day, but, she is only intrested in food at night. Usually around 6pm, then goes back in the middle of night to polish it off. I'd like to leave food for her during the day while I'm at work, but our lab would just gobble it up!

Zoey was about 34 lbs when she was spayed at 6 months old. She didn't get much bigger after that. I wanna say she stopped gaining weight at about 8-9 months old and is now about 38 lbs.
