My sister did a Petco class and was discouraged after the 3rd or 4th class. The trainer was always late, not very attentive, hadn't moved on past sit or down in 3 weeks, and was more concerned about walking through the store to promote certain toys and food. She quit about half way through and got a...

Is it luxating pattella?? If so, my sister's australian sheppard mix had this. It normally does effect smaller breeds, but, larger breeds can get it too. Her's had to have a surgery (at 1600 dollars!). They say some puppies grow out of it though..I hope yours does!

dew claws

How important (or not) is it to have dew claws removed? My chow still has hers, but, I was considering talking to the vet about removing them (maybe when we do a teeth cleaning). She jumped up on me and got it caught on my shirt the other day and yelped out. Other than that, they've never been a pro...

Have you given him raw hides at all? Mine started throwing up white stuff from them. Vet said they can't digest them, so they throw it back up. I took them away and 2 days later the symptoms were gone.

I took my chow to puppy class before she finished all her shots. It's a risk, but, so is waiting too long to socialize a puppy. The class I went to made sure the floors were bleached before class. They did check everyones vaccine records to make sure they were up to date for the age of puppy. Despit...

Ching looks so much like Zoey in a few of those pics! Looks like you 2 have so much fun together. I asked my old trainer about an agility class and got the "chows don't really do agility". Nice to see you can prove them wrong!

I was wondering if anybody had tried out that Oster rake yet and loved it as much as I did. If you go to buy one though, be careful. A groomer tried to sell me one for 60-80 bucks! You can find them online for 20-25.

grooming/undercoat rake

I went to a do it yourself dogwash place, and while there, a groomer came out to give me some advice. She let me borrow an undercoat brush she had. She suggested that I get one if I never wanted to shave her, especially since she is a chow. It works amazing! Gets out the mats and dead undercoat. Not...

I got Zoey last July, so, this will be our 2nd summer. We haven't ever shaved her. We got her a kiddie pool that we fill up with cold water for her when it gets hot outside. She loves it!

Yea..like a face washing..haha that's funny Jeff! She stops everyday in the dewey grass, lays down, rolls around, rubs her face, then just looks at me like "leave me here, you can go on about your walk, i'm enjoying the cold grass right now". I hope it wasn't the rib bone. She really loved...

She does tilt her head slightly, then will shake it for a few seconds. We went for a long walk this morning, and she didn't do it. I'll watch her again tonight, hopefully it's getting better. She does stop to roll in the grass and rub her face. We haven't switched her food or treats, Innova and drie...

I called my regular vet over the weekend about this because Zoey doesn't seem to be getting better (still shaking her head). Since it may be allergies, she told me to give her Benadryl. One and half 25 mg tablets up to 3 times a day. In a week, if she is not better, they want to put her under to loo...

One more thing I forgot to mention, no eye contact. If anybody looks directly at her, she barks at them. If they kneel down, turn their head away from her, and extend their hand out to her, she will come up and kiss a strangers hand. But if they look at her..forget it.
