Re: Majesty Chows in Oregon
I just wanted to add another voice to the group who are warning about this website. I'm a member of AKC and CCCI, the national chow club, and even in our organization there are a few people who have been sold puppies with many health problems--despite rigorous screening. In my own case, I had a chow...

Re: When will the hurt go away!
That was so eloquently stated! Well put--we are the fortunate few to have been loved and owned by our beloved chows. It does forever tug at the depths of your soul to have lost that deep connection. It was four years and four days ago that I had to let my little Chelsea go to Rainbow Bridge and it s...

Re: When will the hurt go away!
So glad to hear it's getting a little easier for you and that the shrine idea has helped. For me, it's comforting to have Chelsea in my bedroom, even though she's no longer in her "earth suit" (as my husband calls it). It truly does just take time for the worst of the grief work to pass. T...

Re: When will the hurt go away!
Karen, So sorry to hear about your loss. As others have said, it takes time to grieve the loss of our beloved chows and what you're experiencing is normal. I wish there was a way to make your sorrow go away but it does take a long time to get over losing a companion as wonderful as our chows and it'...

Re: Nothing vet can do, can anyone suggest anything
So sorry to hear about your chow. I agree with what others have said about finding another vet. Also, there is a really bad bacterial infection that is running through some of the chow lines that seems to be either related to arthritis and hip dysplasia or possibly a trigger for those disorders. Som...

Re: Dealing with loss...
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. It's always difficult to lose a treasured pet, but to lose one so suddenly is even more heartbreaking that words can't even express the sorrow you must feel. Chows are very special and the way the bond they form with us, as Cooper and you shared, is one of...

Chow Day Picnic (Los Angeles Area)
Just wanted to invite all of you to a Chow Day Picnic in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 10 AM-2 PM. This fun event will include a costume parade, grooming class, rally demonstration, conformation class and contests. All chows (and their fur people) are invited to attend. Since we...

Re: Help with Grief
Rodney, I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Lexi. As others have already said, the loss of a chow takes time to heal and the only way to feel better is to let yourself go through the process of grieving. We lost our chow chow Chelsea after having her for almost 15 1/2 hears in January 2008. The...

Re: Gizmo dies while at vet being groomed
Deanski, Thank you so much for your advice. I did go to the Memorials and Prayers section to see Gandalf's photo. He really was a gorgeous dog and I can see why you miss him so much. My tribute to Chelsea is in that section, too (from 2008). I couldn't get her photo to upload unfortunately but at le...

Re: Gizmo dies while at vet being groomed
Deanski, I can so relate to your feelings about Gandalf. When we had to put Chelsea down, I held her and we looked in each other's eyes the entire time they were administering the anesthetic and the last med. that took her from me. Even though I knew it was needed, the decision to end her life and w...

Re: Lily went to the vets today
So glad Lily's been to the vet and that it doesn't sound like it's anything serious. When I first brought Chelsea home, we discovered that she was extremely anemic and then a couple months later had a parvo scare. It's pretty scary when they're so young because they're so vulnerable and they can't t...

Re: Gizmo dies while at vet being groomed
So sorry to hear about both of your losses. I'm just now reading about what happened to Gizmo which was so tragic, and then my heart just broke when I read about the decision you had to make about Gandalf. We lost our beloved Chelsea in January 2008 and after having to make the decision to euthanize...

Re: Any advice for a new Chow owner?
Congratulations on your new chowlet!! I'm so happy that you found this wonderful website already and that Cinna and you will be able to share all of your adventures with the great people who post on this MB. I adopted my chow girl, Chelsea, when she was just a young ball of fluff, too, and before I ...

Re: When to let your pet go when health is declining rapidly
Ana, I'm so sorry to hear about Deng. It's never easy to make that decision. We struggled with it when Chelsea had hip dysplasia for several months. The vets told us that she'd let us know when it was time--but she never did. I think what they didn't realize is that chows are fiercely loyal to us an...

Re: Rescued Chow barks at night
So fun to read the post about chows knowing what they want---how true!!! They certainly own us, not the other way around, and train us pretty quickly as well. I am so happy to hear that your pup is sleeping at night--and in your room. That's where my Chelsea always slept, right next to me. When she ...

Re: Rescued Chow barks at night
Sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with Nhala's barking but I'm wondering if she's lonely, feeling separation anxiety, and just wants to be with you and your wife (who are "her pack")? Dogs as a general rule don't like to be separated from their owners; chows feel like they own us...

Gigi, My heart goes out to you and Sienna as you're either still struggling with this decision or have already had to make it. Re: Wolfie is DEAD
I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Wolfie. I remember you! I was on this MB regularly until I lost my chow girl Chelsea (in January 2008). Losing a chow is like losing part of your self. It does get easier with time but I found myself looking at one of Chelsea's favorite spots...

Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW
I think chows are wonderful but also can be difficult to raise so it can be challenging to have one. I mean, face it. lots of people have dogs and don't really take the time to train and socialize them so it's not just chows that this happens with but we get blamed more because of chows' reputations...

Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW
Absolutely true. With all dogs--but especially our chows--you need to be very careful about any aggressive behavior and stop it as soon as it occurs (unless there is a need for it, such as an intruder in your home or someone about to attack you). You really shouldn't even put up with them growling a...

Interest in Chow Fest in Southern California?
Dear Chow Chow Friends, Our local chow club is considering sponsoring a Chow Fest and would like to know whether there is interest in having a Chow Fest in the Orange County, California area. (This is actually my suggestion after reading about Chow Fests on this MB the last couple years and thinking...
