With a heavy heart
I had to say good bye to my best friend of nearly 14 years on Friday June 26th. We went everywhere together, when travelling for work there was always a spot for him. We'd find the dog parks for every place we visited and on longer trips we'd stop every hour and have a little run in the farmers fiel...

Where are they advertising?
Gunner is the bom, he is without a doubt the best friend I've ever had. Going through the BS I'm going through at the moment I'm glad the mighty Chow is around. He and my family are my strength.

I was told off!
Oh my!! This was the most ferocious battle in history between man and chow!! The tug rope came out of the magic toy box and after nearly 15 mintues of unrelenting battle no side was going to give. The mighty Chow's nose got closer and closer and he quickly pulls away only for me to battle to get him...

Time for school!
Well, my wife and I are going through a separation so I figured I can do better things with my time than sit at and mope. Jan. 13th we start basic Obedience classes, they are 6 1hour classes and if that goes well we're going to join the Rally Obedience class(this sounds like fun for both of us! :) N...

Re: New Chowling?????
HOw many do they have left? My wife isn't too keen on the idea of another dog, but she does feel that Gunner could use the company. I'm just not sure if I want to go through the puppy stage again, that's why I was hoping that Sherman from Edmonton would work out...

Re: What to do with little Mochi?
I'm afraid Henry gets to go to the Kennels when we go somewhere he can't come :( He doesn't poop until he has too - usually 3 or 4 days, he eats very litte and we can tell by his tired face that he gets very little sleep, he also refuses treats off the kennel lady and her staff. We found a dream ke...

Re: Pet perfect deshedding and grooming tool?
It works well and that's kind of my concern, does it take out too much fur? Is it going to pull out his undercoat?

Pet perfect deshedding and grooming tool?
My wife picked one of these up last night and the thing works OUTSTANDING. Gunner normally gets brushed at least once a week and I usually get a grocery bag of fur out of him. With this tool and about 45 mins last night and 20 mins tonight I got almost a 3/4 of a garbage bag out of him, I can't beli...

The only time Gunner lifts his leg is when we are at the dog park, at home he squats. I mentioned this to the vet at his last annual and she says there is nothing to be worried about that lots of male dogs do that.

Re: Cal Natural or Acana
Thanks for the info, I think I'll try him on a couple of bags of the California Natural and see if his dry skin clears up, if it does I'll stick with it, if not I'll keep looking. If the smell of the food says how much fish is in it there must be alot, cause I poured some into his tuperware containe...

Re: Cal Natural or Acana
I did some reading on both brands at dogfoodanalysis.com and the California Natural is listed as a 4 star and the Acana is listed as a 3 star. The review on the Cal Natural though states that "we are not convinced that the food contains an adequate amount of meat". Should I be concerned wi...

Re: Cal Natural or Acana
I ended up buying a 36lb bag of the Cal Natural because he ate the sample packages with alot of enthusiasm. I'm interested to see how it helps with the dry skin and itching from the looks of the ingredients it looks like a much higher quality of food than he's been on in the past.

Gunner will fetch toys and balls, but he's not interested in sticks at all. He'll shake paws and my wife taught him to play dead. She makes a "gun" with he hand and says "bang" (usually has to say it 2 or 3 times) and he'll lay down, roll on his side and lift his front leg in the...

Re: Cost of grooming
Gunner went for the first time yesterday and wow he looks GREAT, they bathed him, conditioned him, blow dried, groomed him, cleaned his ears and cut his nails for $53 CDN with tax. When I went in to pick him up I expected to see a pissed off Chow and an angry groomer, but she said he was awesome! I ...
