Re: Help! Entropion!!!
It is not uncommon to see entropian in a Chow. Sometimes it does clear up on its own if not when your puppy is older it will have to have surgery. Try holding your puppy and letting it chew on a bone while you massage the lid. Ask the vet about putting a lubricant like "Puralube" in to rel...

Re: Stud contract - Questions
The risk of injury to the bitch or stud is the reason so many breeders in the US do AI (artificial insemination). As far as the number of puppies in a litter 5 seems to be an average although I had a girl that came from a litter of 11. I hope your girl delivers without any problems.

Congratulations on the new addition. Here is a link you might find helpful http://www.peaceablepaws.com/pat-miller.php . Pat Miller is the author of several great books. You can probably find them in your library or of course on line. I always check the used book stores. The main thing is to be pati...

Re: Fighting Chows
I would keep the dogs apart unless you are there to supervise. Unless the dog has been aggressive with your grandchild before I don't see why it would change because of this. You need to make sure a child never gets between them if they get into another fight though, but that's true of any dog. Be s...

Re: flea treatment
Anytime you put flea treatments on your pet you risk your pets health. According to CanineCancer.com, flea and tick products may contain solvent ingredients such as benzene, toluene and xylene that are known to cause cancer. If you have to use something, I would look for a natural treatment. Laura

I think cranberry is an excellent idea. If you don't want to deal with another pill you can get it in a powder. I think the most important thing to do is take them off tap water. Give them only filtered water.

Re: What type of Coat and Its color?
Its sometimes hard to tell from a picture, I know my cinnamon girls look red in a lot of pictures. Your boy looks red to me in this picture and I'm thing a rough. If he was standing it would be easier, a rough has feathering on the back of the front legs and rear. He is a pretty boy!

Re: Flea Allergy? Help?
Have you considered she might have an allergy to something else? Some dogs are allergic to the flea treatment, maybe consider asking the vet to try a different one. Could it be a food allergy? Are you putting anything on your carpet? What kind of shampoo are you using? If you and your vet can't find ...

Re: Thoughts on Entropion Surgery
Your vet is the best person to decide if surgery is needed. If you are still unsure you can always consult another vet. An ophthalmologist is trained to do the surgery, but I have seen many regular do an excellent job. Did your vet give you any ointment to put in her eyes? Sometimes an allergy will ...

Re: AKC Registered Chows, unique names
Hi - I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've asked this question before and have never gotten an answer. Does the AKC/CCCI have DNA testing? As in, is it possible to identify a dog within the recent past by DNA test? I've been involved in equine rescue breed organizations before, and you'd be ...

Re: Is this a pure Chow Chow?
I think every Chow deserves a home. I just want people to be aware when they buy a puppy. I don't support backyard breeders or pet stores. There are many puppies in rescue that need and deserve a home.

Re: Stud contract - Questions
One more thing to consider. Plan ahead in case your bitch is not willing to accept the male. Sometimes even it your timing is right a bitch will be aggressive towards the stud. A lot of breeders do AI to prevent their studs from being injured.

Re: Is this a pure Chow Chow?
looks like a pure chow, just not a well bred one. Anyone breeding puppies should be able to show you health certificates on the parents. They should be able to show proof that the puppies have been to the vet and had their first shots.

I'm sending the link for the Canadian Chow Club http://www.chowcanada.ca/# . They can put you in contact with breeders in Canada. If you scroll down, under this box is a button "upload attachment" . Just click and your files should come up so you can choose your picture.

I use 64 oz stainless steel bowls. The ones with rubber on the bottom are nice for puppies since they won't move around. Here is a picture of what I mean http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=2792&cmpid=PPC-G-3929 I would hope the breeder would send a little of the food t...

What a great welcome to the site. A new member asks a questions and is criticized. If they weren't concerned about their chow they wouldn't have asked the question. Maybe your garage isn't clean enough for your dog, but that doesn't mean his isn't. I've seen some houses that I wouldn't let my dogs s...

I'm not sure if JammyJoy is familiar with the ingredients in Royal Canin but the main ingredient is Brewers rice. That alone should let you know there is a problem. If you research dog food you will find that Royal Canin is not one of the better foods. I don't know why vets continue to sell it, mayb...

Re: cream chow and china dolls
I looked at the website and didn't see anything about health clearances on the dogs. I saw nothing about a contract. I did see that they charge 10.00 a day if you don't get your puppy by 8 weeks, but they only ship on Sundays? Sounds like a way to add extra charges. I would have a lot of questions. ...

Royal Canins first ingredients are Brewers rice, chicken by-product meal, wheat, corn gluten meal. That is for the adult medium breed. Why would you want to feed your dog that? Chicken by product meal is " the dry, ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as nec...

If there are no fumes or other hazards in your garage I would much rather have my dog inside while I'm gone. You don't know what could happen if you leave your dog outside. As long as the temperature is at least 50 degrees your puppy should be fine. I would be more concerned during summer when it co...

Re: Stud contract - Questions
Just to add to what Rorys dad said, make sure you are ready for the vet bills. If your girl needs a C-section you could be looking at $750 to $2000 depending on where you live and if you have to use an emergency clinic. You also should make sure your bitch and the stud have a BRUCELLOSIS TEST. http:...
