Melanie, This is a first-seizure issue. You have described (and very well done) a typical generalized tonic-clonic spell; the behavior after the seizure is called a "post-ictal confusional state", and may last from several minutes to a few hours. Complete recovery is a rule. As you have me...

Funny facts about Freddie

A stranger may think he is deprived of a "vocal" apparatus... In fact, my dog does not bark, except: 1 - Under the circumstance of heavy raining with loud thunders... 2 - Fireworks after a soccer match... 3 - When DREAMING... In the middle of the night, scarcely, I have heard a softly &quo...

Hard to make doggy friends...

Most times when I go out with Freddie for a walk, and he meets other dogs (poodles, yorks, etc), they bark at him, growl at him, behave unfriendly, even when he is just approaching... Why this happens?... Freddie has a very good temper, in fact, the most passive and docile I have ever seen in a dog....

According to his vet/breeder, this issue probably is related to rapid feeding... He has not found anything wrong with Freedie... Told me to reduce the amount of food and consider those raised bowls!

Victory,

I may be wrong, but I think that ticks are ubiquitous... And strongly disagree that they are bothering only the sick puppies... As a matter of fact, most of parasites lead to asymptomatic infestations, as it would be disadvantageous for them killing their hosts...

Are anti-tick collars so harmful? Do your chows use them?

Hi,

I was curious about how popular anti-tick collars are amongts chow owners... I know they are potentially hazardous; even though I have got one for Freddie.

Merlin, Very interesting and useful information... I have heard about those raised bowls before... But not about the system you have showed us... Grains inflate in the stomach... I see this in his water bowl... Yeah, that makes sense... Cheryl, I will post a pic of him as soon as I get a decent one....

Thank you so far for your concern... Frederico (Freddie) is a red chow-chow puppy, european standard; he weights almost 15 kg now; has been previously chipped, vermifugated and vaccinated. He wears a Bayern´s anti-tick collar and has been fed with small bite-sized super-premium kibbles only; he gets...

Gagging & Reflux, Puppie Chow: Need Advice

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like some help. I own a 7 month year-old chow; I have noticed some ocasional gagging; sometimes he gags and throws up clear stomach material. Provocative factors may be rapid feeding (not immediately) or random at the day. He has done it once when I was hugging h...
