Re: A male or a female?

I will adopt one at the beginning of August Sounds like you are BUYING a dog, not "adopting" a dog. we are absolutely certain we want a beautiful Chow To find breeders of merit who sell purebred chows and who adhere to a code of ethics you can contact the Canadian Kennel club or the Chow ...

Re: Kibbles 'n bits? Purina?

I've never had that problem with ANY of our dogs, or cats, on purina. Whether you';ve had problems or not, doesn't negate the very well known fact that the food is extremely low quality food by any stretch of the word - and your argument is a very typical response from people who try to justify the...

Re: teeth loose need soft food recipes

You can easily follow a raw regime, which would be healthiest, all you have to do is grind the food.
You can often pick up really good meat grinders on freecycle or on ebay.
There 's nothing stopping you from cooking either. Simply grind up the food.

School her. I really learned how to walk my dog at school. It's actually more for people than for dogs
Thank you! Just... thank you.
That's where people should go to get educated. There is no excuse and there is no suitable alternative.

Oh, you disagree with me! I'm not disagreeing with you.. I'm just "saying". :) Why should we lose our precious breeds like the Chow Well... unfortunately will. - because of people - that's what BSL is trying to achieve and it already has, and personally I don't think times will go backwar...

Re: This is just SICK!

What is wrong with the 400 (300?) great breeds that we already have? - because many of them have lost their sense of purpose, that's why We no longer need huge mastiffs to take into war with us, or guard our castles, cleanse the grounds of badgers or clear the woods of fox, or to pull our sleds. We...

Re: Food Aggression issues towards other dogs

She gives off a warning growl and tenses up her body. I snap my fingers and say "NO!" Snapping fingers is only good if you have actually trained this dog to become submissive to the sound of the "snap". If you haven't, it does nothing. Whenever something goes wrong, it's always ...

Re: To board or not to board...

There are kennels out there with excellent facilities that allow your dog to come in , or go out , without them ever haveing to physically handle your dog themselves. A good kennel has good references they can offer and generally are run by savvy people. They want your business and they want you to ...

Re: New owner-What are the must have supplies??

A young dog's throat and neck are very very vulnerable and damage Again, only in uneducated hands. Victory I don't agree with you about your trainer comment(s), but we are all entitled to our own opinions. but an 8 week old puppy can't go to classes in most US cities, they have to be 10 weeks old, ...

Re: New owner-What are the must have supplies??

A harness for walking, don't use collars for leash training in a young puppy, I have to tell you that there are not too many trainers who will agree with you on this, and this is one of the reasons why it is important for people to work with schooled and learned trainers, so as not to pick up infor...

Thanks so much for taking this fellow in and giving him a home.
I'm sure his chances at the shelter would have been bleak.
I'm sure at his age he's perfectly happy to look forward to resting his head in a caring home.
Looking forward to pictures.

Re: Walking off leash

I read a post before about peoples' chows being very good at walking off leash, On the contrary, generally speaking chows are not good off leash candidates at all. They have too strong a prey drive and are too independant in nature. What you could consider doing is long lining your chow. that would...

Re: Muzzle - HELP !

we had to muzzle him . It's never really a good idea to muzzle a dog, "all of a sudden", at a moment of need, if you don't have to./Often, people do this in emergencies, and the dog panics and it only adds to the problem at hand. It's far better off for you to teach your dog to accepting ...

Re: Not Eating

What you can do is take your chow's temperature. If your chow has a fever, then it would be normal that he'd be fasting. and if he has a fever, this is simply a sign of an infection somewhere, ( such as bladder/ kidney - ear infection). - it happens sometimes and those kinds of issues are very treat...
