Re: Rescue or Breeder

If this is not the breeder's first litter one could ask if they may contact people who have bought puppies from them to see what their experience with this breeder has been like. They can also get a feel for the type of Chow the breeder produces by seeing previous litters. If you're dead set on a ce...

Re: New thread or a continuation?

Thanks Amanda.. I love that boy. If you saw him at 6 months old when I got him you wouldn't know it was the same dog. This is a picture of my Hungarian girl on the left with her puppies and Kicker's daughter Jazzi.

Re: New thread or a continuation?

I have his two smooth daughters here. One is a light shaded red like he is and the other is a cream. They are 3 yrs old now. Not sure if I'll ever breed them or not.
I know I can't sit on the fence much longer about that, but, it really won't hurt my feelings if they are just my pets.

Re: New thread or a continuation?

He's out of CH Al De Bear's I Can't Believe It's Not (Butter) and Southpaw's Luscious Lucy. He's a half brother to Simba's dam if I remember correctly. He and Wicked have the same sire. He's a little over 10 yrs old now. I took a chance on a gangly 6 month old and he lived up to my vision. Carolyn

Re: New thread or a continuation?

I remember Sandy having this litter. Don't remember if it was before Butter passed away or after. CH Al De Bear's I Can't Believe It's Not is Kicker's sire and Sandy is one of his breeders. So, they could be related. Is this the one she re-homed because he didn't get along with her other Chows? Bruc...

Re: Same old stuff!

[quote="MuddyChow"] (heck, there are regionals and shows to go to, dinners to attend!) You just don't "get" it. The breeders that rarely breed a litter are being accused of something they didn't create. Go after the Puppy Millers who are continually producing litter after litter ...

Re: Same old stuff!

You're welcome, Michelle. Just a heads up, this list is like none you've ever experienced. So, put your seat belt on tight-- you're in for a ride. There are some really good people here who truly love their chows. I don't get to check in often, but, when I do I inevitably learn something. Sometimes ...

does anyone's chow do this

It might not hurt to have your Vet evaluate him. I've heard of Chows doing this and they are having mini seizures.
Hopefully, it's not this, but would rather be safe than sorry.

This is taken from the Chow Standard regarding eye color. Eyes Dark brown, deep set and placed wide apart and obliquely, of moderate size, almond in shape. The correct placement and shape should create an Oriental appearance. The eye rims black with lids which neither turn in nor droop and the pupil...

You can't always go by how the muzzle looks at this age. If her parents are not squishy faced and there aren't squishy faces in her pedigree she will probably have an open face. A pretty face but open. She will be a light shaded red. If the sire belongs to someone else it will not be possible to see...

I am so sorry for Shumie's passing. It's a terrible experience for anyone let alone someone who just got a new puppy. If you got your boy to the Vet in time, Lou, you are in the minority not the majority. There are certain lines that are predisposed to bloat also. I am going to assume that your stat...

Regarding Taibo... Occasionally, a black pup is born who develops a white coat and it is presumed to be linked to vitamin deficiencies. Once the puppy coat is shed the new coat will come in correctly. I used to have a line of blacks that had white/silver tails, feathering, and breeches. This was as a...

Ok, I'm a little confused here. You've had this Chow for a year and you don't feel it's your responsibility to get her properly groomed? You're going to pass this expense on to whomever takes her in? If she's matted to the skin, she's going to need shaved down. You allowed her to get in this conditi...

If you use the AKC site, please make sure to look at the information in the Breeder Profile to the right side of the screen. If the breeder says they do health screenings please verify this at http://offa.org. It's easy to say you do the screenings, but, if they're not listed on the OFA site I would...

How old are the children? Children have to know how to respect a puppy and how to treat it. It's a two way street. My son-in-law doesn't like Chows, so, my daughter who was raised with them is not allowed to have one. Son-in-law is worried about the Chow with children. So, here is Grandma who would ...

Not yet, Carla. I can assume they didn't pass since they had the other tests done, but, that might not be fair. Approaching breeders about testing can bring out some pretty heated emotions. When my best friend was alive she had a hard time finding breeders who would agree to do any testing so that s...

Sorry to hear about your son, Carla. He is a cutie.. As for the questions on the certifications, it is voluntary. I was just at the OFA site doing some research. I can find OFA's for hips, but not allot of anything else. It's disheartening to look into a line for a possible puppy and see that they e...
