Re: Clicker training, multiple dogs, impromptu training...
Personally, i would think about 'marking' the behaviour with another sound / word to keep the click salient. When i'm training this behaviour i just the treat without a marker as soon as they pause. Then i stretch it out to reawrding when they look at me, then they have to turn to me, then come to m...

Re: New Owner (sort-of) Needs Advice
Your baby chowling needs to go out to potty at least every 4 hours during the day. My adult chows have access to potty 4 times a day, but they needed to go out far more as pups. I would also say that adult chows in apartments benefit from 2 short, or 1 longer walk a day (at least 45-50mins) to allow...

Green discharge from an eye would make me take Pong to the vet. It sounds like an infection that will need treatment or may turn into an ulcer, or even damage his vision. Let us know how he does!

Re: Urine staines
Oh yes, i love the white on white for Millie. I would swear by the black on black for my Alfie's coat. It was always GORGEOUSLY back & shiny. They are natural, with none of the hardh chemicals you often find in these kind of shampoos, a big plus for me. I think CC does a 'trial' or 'travel' pack...

That's the perfect attitude! She's a winner for YOU & that is all that matters. I'd take her temperament over a beautiful yet nasty dog any day. I think showing teaches me a marvellous 'poker face' Just be nice to everyone & vent when you get home Sirol  I just don't get involved.

I use a lot of Chris Christenson products on my creamy girl. A lot of whitening shampoos will help with staining btu this http://www.chrissystems.com/iceonice1.htm sprayed on, prevents the issue

Re: Run Up to Crufts
The show world reminds me more of the school playground at times... & I hated that place! It's a DOG show people, not the Nobel physics prize! Politics aside, all you are playing for is another's (hopefully educated in & lovers of the breed) OPINION of your dogs. How they feel the dog measur...

Ketamine recall
Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of this recall. The scarey thing is it's been an issue since July & only at the end of December were Vets told. The article below talks about all of it. My friend has the chow in the article & called me the day it happened to Ruskin. Having seen her...

Maybe he got wet / damp there & it didn't dry well? That's has happened to Millie in that area before. Really worried me at the time, but since i've been more careful, never seen it again.

Re: How Long do you Walk?
That's far too long! Even an adult chow doesn't tend to need that much exercise daily. I tend to walk mine twice a day for about 40mins then 15mins. If we go out snowshoeing they just about go for 2hours & they only get 1-2 short walks the next day. At 6months, you chow isn't fully grown yet &am...

Re: Coat question
The fluctuation in temperature are causing mine to shed a little as well. My best advice is groom, groom, groom as it encourages coat growth & conditioning. Coming in & out of season will also affect coat in bitches. Louie is shedding like crazy, in the middle of a coat change & entered ...

Re: When a Chow's tail suddenly stops curling over the back
Most chows put their tail down when they are scare, unhappy or in discomfort. Of an older or sick chow it can just be more comfortable to leave it down rather than exert the muscles to keep in on their backs. Maybe worth a check-up to see if any arthritis is suspected him the back or legs.

Glad to help! Also, try lots of short brushstrokes rather than long ones. That helps
Thanks for the compliment on Louie, i love grooming but he's the only chow that enjoys it as much as i do. Millie would rather not thanks

Re: How to maintain that freshly groomed, fluffy look?
Nope, you need a force air dryer, it makes a huge difference to their 'fluff factor' Also, always brush / comb towards the head (apart from their legs) I give them a quick blow out then spray with grooming spray before most groomings. A slicker will also help you. Here is Louie (at 3months old) afte...

Re: How to maintain that freshly groomed, fluffy look?
DO you have a dog dryer? It really makes a huge difference in making their coat look fluffy. I can take mine to the dogs & fluff them up even without wahing them. It's awesome!
