Re: Went After Another Dog...smh

Dim Sum can be extremely territorial. Even though he is great with dogs and people outside of the home, if anyone passes by the house, he can go into the red zone in an instant. One time he actually busted through the storm door and snapped at a neighbor's dog. Thankfully the dog was not hurt. He wo...

Re: Pre-soak or not?

I've never pre-soaked. When he has had soggy kibble in his bowl (like when I have poured dripping onto it and he doesn't eat it immediately) he won't eat it.

Concern vs. Overreacting

I went to Home Depot yesterday; I wasn't in there for more than 10 minutes. It was closer to five if anything, because I knew exactly what I was going to buy. Dim Sum was in the car. The temp was less than 70º, it was slightly overcast and slightly humid, and I had all four windows open half way; it...

Dim Sum doesn't mind rain or puddles. He doesn't actively seek either out, but if it's unavoidable, no worries.

Re: HOA rules and regulations

I have never had to deal with the problem, but if I did, I think I would tell them that Dim Sum is a Pomeranian. ;)

Re: Which Collar?

Dim Sum has a rolled leather collar, which is actually a little too large...he has backed out of it on a few occasions. I probably should try a gentle leader or some other kind of harness, but I hesitate to put anything else over his fur. He only wears his collar on walks; at home he's nekkid. As an...

I suppose it's possible for someone to have a lot of exposure but no experience. Some people don't know what they're talking about too.

Re: Why does every one think my chow is mixed?

Chows have a lot more variation than other breeds. Between the smooth and rough coats, the five colors, the size, and shape/look of the face, it is understandable that some might be confused or unconvinced. I get it too, since Dim Sum's tongue is spotted. If someone wants to believe he is mixed, tha...

Re: Couch potato or floor rug?

I don't have a rule about furniture per se, but Dim Sum does not go on the couch except when he is especially nervous (I guess). Why he only does it when I am not home I have no idea. I very rarely sit on the couch, so I don't believe he does it because of my scent. He also jumps on it if he really ...

Re: Which way?

I can't find an answer to this question, which way do you brush a Chows fur? Breeder said from tail to head,is this correct?? If you're asking where to start, IMO it doesn't matter. Sometime I start at the tail, but other times I start at the head. In regards to the topcoat, I brush in the directio...

Re: Wanting whats best for my new Chow.

I know puppies need more food, but I think you might be overfeeding him.

The presence of ground corn and corn gluten meal in the Holistic kibble is not ideal. I view those ingredients as filler.

Re: Water

I've never heard that about water and exercise, but some recommend not giving water before after dry food as a precaution against bloat. Some also recommend to hydrate dry kibble. I've never done either; I have water available to him always. I just watch him and make sure he isn't eating and drinkin...

Re: Cat watching

Is she really that calm, or not? When Dim Sum sees a cat, he really want to go after it. Sometimes he will sit, as if to say, "please, can we get closer?" But it is not a relaxed sit at all. You can tell he wants to jump up and chase it down...and pull my arm out of its socket!

Re: Whitby's "coat" needs sewed

It is so cute of the Chow Chow and why do not dress the Chow Chow? although it has thick fur but i think that if we make them up ,just like give them a pair of shoes ,a neckline and so on maybe they will become famous and beautiful A pet show here recently had a contest for best dressed dog, with a...

Re: Is this a Chow Chow ?

Definitely a pure Chow. But as others have said, Chows are known to be difficult. Chows also require a lot of grooming. Unless they are already considering a Chow and know the challenges upfront, surprising them with a dog...most especially this breed...is not a good idea.
