Re: Feeling confused and sad!
Kilo is gorgeous. To me it sounds as though your doing everything right. The previous answers are pretty much spot on imo. Just keep loving him, training him and trusting in him. No animal is born vicious, it's a learned behaviour, whether that behaviour is needed for food, attack or flight - think ...

Re: Does Anyone Let Their Chow Walk Without a Leash?
Henry can go off leash, this tends to only happen at the off leash park though. Daisy has gone off leash at the dog park but her recall is non existant and she is so very easily distracted, I would never take them both on my own to the dog park and let them off leash. Henry has pretty good recall an...

Re: Beat the summer heat on walks
Neither of mine could manage two miles without stopping to sniff lots and lots and then they would want lots to drink too. I find two shortter walks or even three better for them and in the heat those walks slow right down.

 I have no real solutions but Henry loves bounce type laundry sheets and tissues, he will pull tissues out of the box and shred them, he will roll around the laundry sheets and then shred those (used ones), he's going to be eight this year, its my fault if he gets his mouth on these things, mak...

Did you not understand what a Lion cut is? You should have asked and It should have been made clear to you. Nevertheless, what's happened has happened the fur will grow back , in the meantime a t shirt or doggy coat will help keep the sun off and your chowbaby warm. From what you've put the groomer ...

Just popped in to say Hi :)
Don't get to be around much these days, but i'm finding myself home with a stinking cold and a bit of time on my hands, so have been having a little read up with the goings on :) As some of you may remember Daisy pig (it's funny how they earn a little nickname) Came into our lives around 6 months ag...

Re: My two chow chow dogs are fighting badly
As an aside, it really is troubling to hear/read that Chows are "innately aggressive". Dominant, hardheaded maybe but that does not equal aggression. If Chowists continue using that terminology, no wonder the world thinks our breed are bad dogs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yeah, th...

Henry has one of these :http://www.countryattire.com/shop-by-brand/barbour-clothing/barbour-wax-dog-coat-olive-uac0005ol71-a1101.html But since his paws are terrified of getting wet, as soon as he see's the jacket he is off, gone, hiding, oh no way jose, so now we leash him up and open the door to g...

Re: Considering adopt a 2nd Chow Chow
Henry is 7 and 2 or 3 months ago Daisy who is 5 came to live with us, she is very food motivated, very very food motivated, to the point of sticking her nose as close to Henry's mouth as possible when food is going on, for the most part it isn't a problem as when they are getting treats we are right...

Oh no poor Ming what a heartbreakingly sad storey, thank god he survived  You must have been terrified. Thankfully Daisy's surgery wasnt caused by anything near as traumatic. When she was a baby she had really bad allergies that made her face swell up, making her skin too big, so she had some r...

This morning it was minus 31, the windchill minus 36, myep those numbers are real, frostbite can occur in something like 15 minutes, believe me, I do not enjoy walking when its that cold, but the furkids needed to spend a penny or two. I hope it warms up a bit soon.

Re: Introducing Daisy
Daisy's snores are partially due to prior health issues, she's had half her tonsils removed and had facial surgery too, I keep meaning to record the noise, it's a bit like concord hitting the sound barrier when she really gets going.

Re: What walking lead to use??
No Christina Chow Mum a lunge line is not a retractable lead/leash, it's a lunge line that you would use for horses 15-20 feet long (cheaper than a lead most of the time too). I would not recommend a retractable leash as it creates resistance as it's pulling out, therefore encouraging the dog to car...

Is getting a ramp for your stairs out of the question? Henry and now Daisy goes to the kennels, they get the playroom instead of a kennel because that's the way it should be for their royal highness' lol. My daughter dog sits for a couple in their home whilst they are away. Bare in mind Hugo may not...
