Re: Bear update
Bear is dead. He was taken to the hospital yesterday to do another endoscope to see if the esophagitis had gotten worse, sine he was unable to keep anything down. While under anethesia, the doctors saw that he indeed have a sever stricture that was not responding to the ballooning. There was no way ...

Re: Bear update
Thanks for all your well wishes. Ever since the first attack, Bear does not leave the house unless he is on a leash. We have no fenced yard, so he will not leave the house without an escort. Thank God for my wife, since Bear will never go to the bathroom on a leash when I walk him! We will be taking...

Re: Bear update
Is everyone just going to wait untill Bear is finely killed and then say oh gee we should have done something, At least take a differant route on your walks and this time around the people should be paying something. A lot of assumptions in this statement. First of all, I don't believe we are waiti...

Bear update
Folks, Sorry I've been absent for a while, but with work and family life, I just haven't had a chance to sit down and write. As of yesterday, Bear is still having difficulty keeping any food down. He revisited the vet and we got another prescription for Sucralfate and some nausea medicine, as well a...

Re: Help needed
Any update on Bear? The boards are back! Bear is doing well. He has a new problem: the soft food is making his bowel movements...ahem..explosive. :) For only the second time in three years he has gone potty in the house. I know it's simply a matter of him being unable to hold it in and it happened ...

Re: Help needed
He's home again. The staples (all 12 of them!) have been taken out and he certainly seems in better spirits. He's tolerating the A/D food quite well and is keeping it down. Our next task: keep my daughter from passing him her food! ;) I just wanted to extend my eternal gratitude to everyone here and...

Re: Help needed
is he able to keep anything down yet? Well, the doc says we will be moving to a different kind of prescription food that is more liquid than solid for the next few weeks. He also suggested that any other food should be, in his words, "blenderized" prior to feeding. When I go to pick him u...

Re: Help needed
Well, that was close. Bear has extreme esophagitis. The endoscopy showed a great deal of inflammation, particularly around the cervical area of his esophagus. The plan is to continue the carafate and add Zantac or Prilosec. I will be picking him up this afternoon. Course, all I can see is my asking ...

Re: Help needed
Bear is back in the hospital. As I mentioned before, Bear has been having a hard time keeping his food down. Every time he tried to eat the smallest portions, he would retch uncontrollably. For the past several days, he has been keeping itdown with much effort. Last night, he threw everything back u...

Re: Help needed
Finally, we brought Bear home yesterday afternoon! He had been keeping his food down so the doc sent him home with a new prescription and some new food (Hill's Prescription Diet Dog L/D Food in a can). Also, there has been some sever draining from his major leg wound, so the poor thing has to wear a...

Re: Help needed
As of this morning, Bear is back in the hospital. After all day yesterday with no food or water and several doses of his Carafate, the doc said to feed and water him gently. Almost immediately, Bear threw everything back up again. The vet wanted to keep him today, put him on an IV and see if they ca...

Just saw this and I hope he is at least resting comfortably. I would have never expected a snake bite either! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Re: Help needed
Last night was rough. Bear cannot keep any food or fluids down. Most of last night was spent regurgitating anything he took in. We tried taking everyone's great advice and boiled up some hamburger and rice. While he did seem to enjoy it, it all came back up. Later, we tried some low sodium chicken b...

Re: Help needed
Ordinarily, he would eat dry Science Diet, but with the neck injuries we have him on soft food (Blue Buffalo). The doctor has him on two antibiotics (Simplicef and Baytril) and the occasional pain med (Rimadyl) if indicated.

Re: Help needed
Over the last 24 hours, Bear has been struggling with nausea. He vomits quite a bit, but the medicine he was provided for it seems to help a little. I do have quite a time getting himto take his pills and have tried all of my old tricks to get them down. Since he has a hard time chewing from the cru...

Re: Help needed
Certainly, whichever is easier for the individual. I have spoken with the Care Center and they are aware that some very caring and generous people may be calling them to inquire about Bear and I have let them know that they can give out any information they wish. As I mentioned before, if anyone has...

Re: Help needed
CCM,
If you like, you can put "Bear Randall" as a memo. They will know what to do.
As of this afternoon, there have been donations in the amount of $60.00 from very kind hearted people. Add my $300.00 to that, and the balance is somewhere around $1600.00.
Thank you so much for asking.

Re: Help needed
Jeff, Bear's convalescence will be long and probably costly. My immediate concern is getting the money for his emergency care to keep him alive. That bill is $1950.00 some odd dollars. He will have to have surgery in the near future to repair the damaged rear leg...as the doc put it, he will basical...

Re: Help needed
Have you tried any of the links for help? Oh yes. There has been one condition on top of the other as to why any organization cannot help. My vet doesn't take Care Credit, the Save U.S. Pet Foundation doesn't help outside of New Jersey, the Pet Fund does not help in emergent situations, the MARL do...
