Dog friendly activities/parks in Nothern Wisconsin?

Sophie, Ty and I are taking a trip to northern Wisconsin in September. I am looking for recommendations for dog friendly activities in the area. Does anyone have a favorite park or destination to recommend? We are going to be staying around Iron River.

Also, what is the tick season like in Wisconsin in September? I am trying to decided whether to change Sophie and Ty over to Advantix before we go.
