Hair Eating???

Post by vicster605 »

Does anybody else have problems with their Chows trying to eat their own hair will you groom them???? When I rake Kearra and now Kyra I have to try and keep them from eating the hair I rake out....GEEZ do they do this for a reason???? Should we give them something for hairballs like the cats???? Are my 2 the only weird OOOO's  Just wondering, Kearra does it and now Kyra so I can't groom them in the same room with each other cuz then I'm fighting 2 from eating the hair......I find myself raking and removing the hair and putting it under my leg to keep them from getting it and eating it

Hair eating is big in our house. If I'm brushing one, the other two are hanging around trying to run off with the clumps. I keep asking them "WHY WHY WHY?!!!" But they give me the same look that a 2 year old gives you when you stop them from sticking they're finger in a light socket and ask them why. They don't know why, just that you are a jerk for stopping them! LOL!

Butters will do this on occasion. He does it to be rotten. It is like a race with him, he will grab it and run, he wants to be chased of course. So when I do catch him he sticks out his tounge like get it off!!! So then I have the pleasure of reaching into his mouth and pulling out slobbery hair balls. YUCK. But he does enjou the game!!

Magda was very into fur eating until very recently. When she was blowing her puppy coat I couldn't keep up with the little furballs all over the house. I would be doing something and I would hear that "chewing sound" and there she would be chomping away. Ugh! That just makes my skin crawl. I can't imagine chewing on a big wad of fur AND THEN swallowing it as though it was some delicious treat. I'm glad she's stopped it. It was getting me a little aggravated, not to mention grossed out. :-x
When I'm grooming now I keep the rubbish basket right next to me and put all the fur in there so its harder for her to get to in case she decides to have a little snack.
At least now I know she's not the only one.

Mikki doesn't eat fur. While grooming, she will jump up once in a while for a big sneeze. I think she's allergic to her fur. I have trouble keeping the cat away though. She keeps rubbing against Mikki and the dead fur sticks to the cat, I then have to brush the cat too. In the process I am covered with the fur too but I take a shower, don't eat it. Karin

Yep, they all do it. Dreamdancer is the worst I've had though, you'd think he was starving the way he goes after Firesong's hair, he's not so adament about his own, but Firesong's is gourmet food or something to him. The only time he's ever thrown up in his life, (since I've had him) was a wad of her hair. Yep big ole hair-ball just like a cat, it was so gross! Luckily he did it outside, but then every time we walked by that site he'd try to reinjest it, YUCKY!!!!! Finally I remembered to toss it into a garbage can. eeeeyuckyickygrrrrossss!
