what can my chow NOT eat
I would like to know what is not good for my puppy to eat. I know chocolate is bad for them, but she will eat anything. She even likes sunflower seeds. I appreciate any help I can get.

Here's a link to a list of foods to avoid in dogs,

My suggestion is to feed a home made diet, see the recipes.
The Bama Burgers are a complete and whole diet regime if supplemented with a raw bone each day.
If you are looking for commercial dry dog food, I would recommend Solid Gold. Here is a link to Solid Gold and their claim.

For a quick view, here are a few things to avoid.
Chocolate
raisins
grapes
onions
There are a few more, but these are the most commonly
ill-fed foods to dogs.

Ivy. You want to keep them away from all forms of Ivy, or at least prevent them from eating it.
There are other plants as well.

[quote="Jeff&Peks"]Just to add:
Plastic - OH NO!! I gave him plastic TEETHING keys! Ok, I took them away because he started chewing off bits and spitting them out all over the floor!
Paper - ARGH!! Sid will HUNT down, napkins, TP, receipts... I'm ALWAYS pulling that crap out of his mouth!
Kids toys: uh oh, does that mean no more stuffed animals?
Small rubber balls - POPS THEM! He's lost more tennis balls that way..
Toys from a happy meal (has the scent of burger on it) - oh my, GUILTY! When he was about a month or so, that was his favorite toy. I stopped though.
Chow Stuff:
Nothing from Wal-mart
Supermarket treats
Pigs ears
I'm a bad MOMMA!! Ok, ICE CREAM it is.

I'm just talking about eating and swallowing the toy, if your Chow isn't chewing and eating the kids toys that's fine but Pekoe gets a hold of some of the small rubber and plastic toys laying around and thinks its lunch. I have bought her every rubber and plastic chew toy they have at pet-smart but she won't touch them.
She may just be chewing on them and not eating them, she might just be trying to distroy any sign of Conner being around but when I see small pieces on the ground I don't trust her.
Pigs ears, I've always heard those are dangerouse but alot of people give them to thier Chows. I'm not a great treat giver, Pekoe gets maybe one or two treats a month (frosty Paws) other then that food only.

Oh, ok, that makes me feel better. No, Sid doesn't actually swallow the bits, not even paper. He wads THAT up and spits it out on the floor. ARGH!
The plastic teething keys were actually made for a pet. I was surprised that something made for a dog got destroyed so easily!
As far as treats go.. Sid is a cookie and treat PIG! The Vet says "NO WONDER he won't eat his food".. GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!!
He won't eat pig ears any more, he THROWS them at me so I'll toss them across the room. SO FUNNY!

Were those plastic keys made by Nylabone Cheri? If so I can sympathise as Millie was bought those & a puppy bone by Nylabone and destroyed them both (she was only 12 weeks old!) I had to show the packaging of the bone to DH to prove that it was not supposed to be edible.... she'd eaten half of it Millie can destroy a 10 inch bully stick in 6 hours now she has adult teeth

Layla, YES, that's exactly the brand! I was AMAZED! Who invents these things? Who manufactures them? Who TESTS them?
I tried to switch to one of those KONG toys. You know, the one's you put a special "biscuit?" and it's supposed to keep Sid occupied for a while? WHAT EVA!! LOL.. Sid holds it like a baby holds it's bottle and can get the biscuit out in less then 5 minutes. Yes, I timed it one day! LOL

I'm pretty positive that all the dog toys and chews on the market are designed for normal dogs NOT Chows! Jazzys favorite toy is the 3 socks tied together that we play tug with
I give my kids greenies, omega 3 sticks, and glucosamine chews, but also give rawhide chews and biscuits but not often. I stopped giving pig ears and other splintery chews when Jaz got a bit stuck in her throat. Scared the crap out of me

I gave up on expensive treats. i will get her a 'moo' or 'red barn' bully stick if i'm out for the day, or want her occupied but apart from that Millie will spend longer trying to get the last little bits of peanut butter out of the tub. Ditto cottage cheese, yogurt, milk cartons etc etc. Much more value on those
Thank you Elodie!

Thanks for all the great advice. The solid gold food sounds like the best thing to feed them, I've ordered some online, I can't find it in East Texas. My son brought home a fortune cookie and fed it to Sugar, she loved it. Does anyone think a fortune cookie every once and a while will hurt her? She seems to want to eat anything I'm eating, including ice.
Thanks again for all the great advice.
