Kiwani--Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil & Grizzly Salmon Oil

Post by willowchow »

I was really disappointed after the recent thread stating that some internet sites were listing more ingredients than the salmon oil and rosemary extract that I had listed on my bottle.

So, I called the company today and spoke to Beverly who is the owner. I told her that there are some not so hard to fine internet sales sites that list more ingredients.

She said she'd have to look into it and I told her I'd send her a few links that I found in an e-mail.

She said, "that would be awesome" because she needed to call them to change their information.

She assured me that it's only salmon oil and rosemary extract. Her exact words "that's all that's in there".

As for the difference between the Wild Alaskan and Grizzly--there is none. The only difference is the Wild Alaskan gets marketed to big box stores like Petco and the Grizzly goes to holistic vets and independently owned pet stores that carry the more natural stuff.

She was nice on the phone. I'm still skeptical, what do you guys think?

She also offered to send me some treats if I included my address with the e-mail information.

Help her out. She needs to know what's being put out there about her product and she needs to be able to provide them with updated information. If you spoke to the owner, then her business is still in a phase that allows you to have an impact on her business and is still customer-centric. So please help her out. If she offered you samples, then that is her way of thanking you.

Ok... I'm confused. The website lists more ingredients than is actually in the product?? Where would they get this information if not from the products company? Which ingredient are you worried about being in there??

Are these the ingredients you are talking about-- gelatin, glycerin, USP-- because these are just the ingredients to make the gel caps.

Hi again. The product is called Wild Alaskan Salmon oil---www.wild-alaskan.com. There is another product that is the same thing called Grizzly Salmon Oil. Here's the link for that--http://www.grizzlypetproducts.com/index.html. It's the same product by the same company.

I'm sorry this is probably confusing to anyone who didn't read the previous discussion about it.

But, there are interent sales sites that list a few ingredients besides what my bottle says, which is salmon oil and rosemary extract. In particular, one ingredient is of concern, propyl gallat. Kiwani explained to me this can cause stomach irritation and that they've removed it from human children foods.

So, I contacted the company about this today. I'm hoping the sites are wrong and I can continue to use this product because it really, really works great and Willow loves it. But, I contacted the company because I think considering how chows are prone to stomach issues, I'd rather stop using it if it's got this ingredient that Kiwani mentioned.

PS--It's a liquid supplement. :D

I got my new shipment of Grizzly Salmon Oil last week, all the Chow Chows say YUM YUM, LOL!!! I also got some of the salmon treats and they love those too, I use them for training and rewarding them, they are small pellet size pieces, so you can give them a bunch when training and they haven't consumed a lot. It's pretty funny, they get fed twice a day, in the morning they get the salmon oil over their food, they eat it right up, then in the evening they get fed again, and they look at the food and look at me like, OK when are you going to put the salmon oil on the food! KV Vet Supply had it on sale for about $25 for the 32 oz. pump bottle, that is the best price I found, and the yhave the treats too.

My chow isn't all that keen on eating immediately. The oil sits on the food and starts to smell. I end up throwing out the food.

I feed my dog what I eat, sardines, mackeral, salmon and other fish, twice a week. I give her the salmon raw. I soak a small piece of bread in 1/2 tspn. of cod liver oil, Mikki gobbles that up immediately, she gets that every day.

RE: Propyl containing products

Post by Juniper »

Just to let you know...I was informed by a cancer network of people, when I lived in L.A., that there was a cancer link to any product containing propyl in its name. So I make sure I don't use any soap, shampoos, food preservatives, vitamins, etc. for myself or my pets that contain propyls in its ingredients.

Jennifer--Thanks, I kind of had a feeling that was true too.

I'm discontinuing use of this product until the company can assure me it's not in there.

I'll re-post if I hear back from them.

---- on a side note ----
I just bought some treats Grizzly NuTreats from Grizzly pet products. No propyl listed in the label.

If "propyl" was carcinogenic, then plain rubbing alchohol used for disinfection puts everyone at risk. The study must have been slight. Perhaps the same where someone like me is extremely sensitive to MSG while no one else in my entire family line has the same sensitivity.

Unfortunately, everyone is at risk Lou. That's why the increase in cancer, even among children. I don't know the details about the study but I personally had malignant cancer 16 years ago, was told I had 5 years or less to live if I didn't do chemo, radiation... followed the cancer network suggestions and through holistic means I cured myself and am cancer free to this day, much to the amazement of the docs.

I also am sensitive to MSG which was proven long ago to cause cancer in laboratory rats. Of course some peoples immune systems are more sensitive. Between air quality, food pollutants...I'd rather go organic, holistic, use chiropractors, avoid meds and avoid rubbing alcohol as well and any products containing it. I've learned through my experience that I'd rather err on the side of caution than take the chance. I found I'm healthier that way.
