Bald Spots
Hey Everyone,
My name is Victor and i have a 7 months old female Chow named Coco.
I know this is shedding season right now and I know it is normal for Chows to drop a lot of hair off and so I groom/brush her daily.
a few days ago I noticed that in some areas in her body (both thighs, body side near the connection between the belly and the front legs and on her lower back) her undercoat is completely gone leaving a 4-5cm of almost bald spots where there is only the thin upper coat. You can clearly see the skin which is not as visible in other body areas and I am very concerned about this.
Please see attached pictures
I will very much appreciate your thoughts on this,
Thanks!
Victor

Re: Bald Spots
I hope I am not to late to answer. I just made an account to respond to this. As someone who has owned a Chow Chow for 4 years I’ve experienced this. This is called hot spots and needed a to be treated immediately before it gets worse. There are things you can do but if it has worsen she needs to go to the vet for an injection iron that will immediately take effect and help. This happens because their fur gets damp. Always make sure to dry them if they get wet no matter where and never let them sit with wet fur. Honey cream and laser treatment are things you can do yourself if you have them. Otherwise the vet will prescribe medication but if it’s already too bad like I said they will use the last means which is the injection. I forgot the main ingredient in it but it works right away. Hope I was able to help anyone who sees this in the future.

Re: Bald Spots
Hi,
This is my chow chow Bear, he was completely shaven back to the skin at just 1 year and 2 months old.
To say we were devastated is an understatement.
With the hope and determination alongside our original groomer to try and save his coat, this is the result 1 year and 3 months later.
His mane has never managed to grow back on it's own with the help of monthly grooming - around his neck it's bald skin.
and we are desperate to know if there is anything we can do for our beautiful boy to get his beautiful mane back.
