Is it true about Blue Buffalo???
I have been feeding Butch and Sundance Blue for three years...now I am reading all sorts of horrible reviews and some of them could apply to myboys! I would love to know what food you feed your chows/pets, please. Research is tough because there are so many different opinions. Right now I'm leaning toward Wellness...but need input, please. My doc recently said the boys (well one boy) is overweight. They have been decreased from 3 cups a day to 2 cups a day. Boy, they went from dogs that could care less about eating to eating their food completely. Of course, I'm not allowed to give snacks other than carrots...which they happily eat. Looking forward to hearing from y'all. jean

I feed my chow blue buffalo and orijen (4:1 mixture). For some reason his stool was mushy and the orijen firmed it up, now he's good. But I have a few questions just because I am curious, what sort of horrible things are you hearing about the brand??

Hi, I can't say I've done my research on the brands, but every vet/ puppy trainer I've met has recommended Nutro. Hope this helps.

Aw man, but when I do a quick google search, users choose Blue Buffalo over Nutro. Now I'm confused.

Re: Is it true about Blue Buffalo???
I don't know, but when my vet (famous for his vet surgeon prowess in the US) asked me what I was feeding Ty, and at the time it was Blue, he insisted I take him off immediately and I asked me why I switched (which I had had him on Nutro). I had switched because I thought I was getting a better food. He said he had his on Blue until his buddy, who is a Pet food specialist and researcher did a presentation on Blue at one of the vet conventions he went to. The research was that since it had commercialized the quality has gone down and apparently has negative long term effects or something like it? Now most people would say it was a ploy to buy the same food from the vets office and what they sell...but they sell Science Diet and he never once recommended it to me. Just told me to go back to Nutro because apparently it was a good food. He said Blue long term according to the research his friend did, was the same as feeding something like Pedigree or what not and that Purina was even a better fit. I have no idea if it was true, but when we switched ( I had him on Freedom so it wasn't the grains) he started to get hot spots. I took him off, they disappeared. I went back to Grain Free Nutro for a while, while TOTW was having issues, but I've since switched because of cost, quantity, and quality. Food equally as good if not better, I get 30lbs instead of 25lbs, and instead of paying 53ish dollars, I pay like 43 or 45ish. I also get to support a local business because they sell it the cheapest.
Re: Is it true about Blue Buffalo???
My opinion for what it is worth - all commercial dog foods have hidden nasty stuff in them and it is a total minefield trying to work it all out. We all want what is best for our dogs and hopefully wont break the bank. My personal belief is that we should feed them what they are designed to eat - this is why I now feed mine the Bones & Raw Food diet (or biologically appropriate raw food diet, depending what you are reading). Wolves dont eat kibble and now, neither do mine (apart from the occassional hypo-allergenic treat biscuit). My dogs eat raw meat of all kinds (from my local wholesale meat supplier or freebie chicken carcasses from my butcher) and whatever veggies and herbs I have around. Sometimes I mix it with rice. It takes a bit of effort (and a giant freezer) but is cheaper than commercial dog food and their skin is better and Fozzchops in particular has energy like never before. They eat everything with gusto and I feel like I am 'cooking' (ie mixing) for my babies They are particularly into minced oily fish at the moment - which is great for Humphreys joint problems.

Boy am I with you on that one Fozzbear. Commercial food needs to be eliminated from the marketplace. It's waste to profit, and too many dogs and cats have died from it.
Pet owners need to go back to their roots and feed dogs and cats they way they did before we had commercial food.

I have been using Nutros lamb and rice with Maggie as well as my last dog Chinabear. She get dry lamb and rice with a large dollop of wet lamb and rice twice a day. She is healthy, skin and hair are beautiful and licks the bowl until it slides accross the floor.
