and would you pick a Chow based on color alone? Personally I love the way black Chows look. I have a red girl that I rescued so choosing a color was not an option. Also do you think that there are certain personality traits that go along with color?

I never thought about a favorite color but for myself and a few others I think Black tends to catch our eye the most. A Chow is a Chow no matter how big or small, Horton the Elephant.

Color should be the last thing that gets decided when getting a dog, a healthy dog should be your first concern, with a good temperament closly following. I love the pure white ones personally, with a nice shaded red a close second. All of them can be really nice though.

I'm one of those people Jeff is talking about...I LOVE the black ones. For some reason when I think of Chows, I think of black Chows. But that doesn't stop me from having two shaded reds (one with a black mask) in the house in addition to Bear.

I am partial to Black and Blue Chow Chows. Probably because that's all we ever had when I was growing up.

I am partial to black. I do love Shug's coloring though. I had never seen a Chow that color. People call them the lion and the bear when we're out. According to the SPCA people are biased against black dogs and they are hard to adopt out. I will never understand that.

I also am partial to Blacks and Blues......I think they are all beautiful though..... followed by the cinnamon color of Lily (Auddymays) and now that I found out that blacks and blues have chinchilla markings I know what my next one (yrs from now) will look like
I don't really think that there is any particular personality traits that differ from one color to the next, just from Chow to Chow......but I'm no expert on that subject lol All I know is that the difference between Kearra & Kyra is like daylight & dark.......COMPLETE OPPOSITES in personality

I wouldn't pick by color alone,I'd pick by who needs saving most.But I prefer the creams.(don't tell Cinnamon!)

I love cream chows! When I first came to this site, I fell in love with Millie Muppet. My BF prefers red chows... Cream chows are a lot more hard to get in France, and a lot more expensive. We took a red one and we're so happy with Coco. And I think she has a great color.
But I still love the creamies!

I love my dreamy creamy puppy & just had to have her! I love the shaded reds next (like Coco) and then the self reds (esp the smoothies) I'm not a fan of the rest of the colours so much, but Alf was the exception to that & I'm becoming very fond of the blacks..... never say never is my motto! However, I'd be happy with any healthy chow to be honest

I have never seen a cream color chow, not even a picture of one. Does anyone on the board have one? I'd love to see a picture if possible. They must be very beautiful judging by the replies.

I'm partial to blacks. My first chow was black and I've just always loved that.

I do love Tippsy's coloring though(I didn't have a say when my dad brought her home).

I wouldn't get a chow just off of color though. Like Red Drangon said, Health first, then temperment... and if it just so happens that the one you're looking at is the color you like then YAY! lol.

I like all the colors, but cream and red are my favorite.

I have had more black animals than any other color. I like Lily's ambiguous color, but I think the deep self reds are simply stunning. Black Chows are great except during photo ops and at night in the dark. Poor Pip gets stepped on and booted entirely too much!

I must say I like all the colors but an partial to the reds.

Same with everyone else......health and temperment first but as far as colors go, I prefer creams(obviousely) and the deep mahogany solid reds. I have to say though there are alot of blacks and blues that have really made me fall for them too....particularly Pekoe, Onyx and Steel. Those 3 really made me look at the other colors more.

All my chows have been rescues, Ralph was cream, Honey was ... I dunno ... kind of a fawn color, I guess, whatever that made her in chow color language, and Brandy is red. IF I had my druthers, I'd love another cream, but I just love them all. There's just nothing cuter than a chow!

I love the reds! Emma matches my hair, so we both look like lions!

I'm partial to black dogs. Don't know why, just am. Anyway, Chloe's a rescue dog and the issue of color never came up. Wouldn't trade her golden-reddish color for anything

I go for the reds! Frisco was red and I haven't been able to resist a red chow ever since! I am partial to that color after Frisco. Carter is a red too, and is part of the reason I was attracted to him. I have no problem with any of the other colors and think they are all beautiful. If I had to choose a chow based on color alone, it would most likely be a red.

I love cream chows, but maybe that is because that is what I have? Also maybe because I have a lot of light colored furniture

So now we have to find you a bleu rescue??Hmm,lets see......
