Diego's new haircut

Post by Taz »

After thinking about it for several months I finally did it.
I shaved my Chow.
It sounds awful, doesn't it? I know.
But I did it for several reason, but mostly because of his allergy..
And I didn't shave the whole dog, I did a Portugisisk vannhund cut. :)

Here is some pictures..

You said that you shaved him due to his alergies. Is his allergic to his own furr, because if that is so he has a huge problem. A chow is practically furr.

I LOVE THE NEW LOOK, my chow would die of embarrasment, but looks lovely on your chow... so much cleaner in the back area.

Good on you,

No, allergic to his food. Even the allergy food.
He chewed on himself, trouble with his stomach etc
So I shaved him and started giving him new food..

But I did partly shave him because I wanted to. :P
And Diego loves it.

Thank you.. :D
Diego doesn't seem bothered over his new look.. :P
He is much cleaner in the back area, and that is very good.
Because of his allergies he has some troubles with his stomach, and it got all messy back there.. So its cleaner, more movement, and he doesn't get that hot. :)

God I know about stomach issues, I think it is a personal preference to shave your chow, there are pros and cons, most being that the fur acts as an insulation to heat and cold.. but if your chow has issues, ex. skin issues, and chewing issues, may be a good idea to start fresh and be able to apply treatment directly to the skin.

You do what you have to do for your fur baby.. and if he is happier, and less itchy,,, good on you.

I am all for a cleaner back end.. I have my chows back end groomed close, my groomer calls it the cheecky bum... looks so much nicer, basically just have his back flags taken down, and shaved around his anus... I also have the front flags trimmed back, and his stomach shaved.. so much cleaner...

He looks great! Taz, do you mind to tell me the brand name of the harness that you are using in Diego? I can not ask where you got it as you are far away from us.

I was also interested in what harness that is?? Willow always wears a harness outside. I think he looks cute and as someone who is all to familiar with the back end being a mess, I think I might try it too!

No, he is not cold. :)
He has about 4-5 mm left on his back area. :)
So yesterday at our walk at the beach, were it was surprisingly snow, Diego refused to come when we were going home.
He just started walking and I had to carry him to the car.
Because he wasn't finish with the walk.
Even tho we had been there for about 2 hours.

The black thing around him is a harness, at least I think thats what it called in English.. Sele: In norwegian.

Edit: Had to correct myself.
