Broken Crate

My chow Onyx that we recieved from the local shelter 3 wks ago just broke his crate last night and was roaming about the house and chewing most everything in sight but not the couches, there was no bathroom mistakes anywhere and the cats food was not even touched. he is 8-10 months/60lbs and is almost trained in all the basic stuff the crate just gives us peace of mind when we are away for short periods i am a sales rep and work from home but when i leave for the afternoon for a few hours i put him in and give him lots of praise h been fine with the crate since we got him and last night just went off should i worry about this being an ongoing thing or just write it off as a onetime deal any help

this is my first chow and i have always had dogs and pups before std poodles when i was growing up none ever did anythign like this
