LOL.. You're going to be one of those people who gets a 32 foot motor coach when sleeping on the ground gets too much! LOL..Jeff&Peks wrote:The only problem with me and camping in Alaska or camping period is i'm one of thos OCD guy's that can't live with out a shower with in 10 ft of me or I go crazy, I tried it once and noway, the next mourning I couldnt last more then an hour and had to go find a hotel just for a shower. thats why I only talk about camp ground by the lake, they have showers.
The ONLY reason I say that is because I've been camping every summer, for weeks at a time, since I was about 2 years old! I love REAL camping! My Mom and Dad, however, bought a motor-home because they say that getting off the ground or sleeping in cots is just to hard for them these days. I tease the CRAP out of them!! WASHER/DRYER, MICROWAVE and SATELITTE TV is NOT camping.. (I tease them).. They like to go to "Hat Creek" and they also spend about a week or 2, every year at "Courtside?" "Courtsite?" It's in AZ. HA HA.. My Mom wants to take Sid with them and my Dad says "The 'brute' is too big".. LOL..

YOU ARE REALLY GOING TO WISH YOU DIDNT GO THERE. MY DOGS ARE HOUSE DOGS, THEY HAVE THIER OWN "YARDS." CURRENTLY 2, ON 2 ACRES, AND THE THIRD BEING ADDED SO NO MORE "ACCIDENTS" CAN HAPPEN. MY DOGS HAVE RUN OF MY HOUSE AND ARE FAMILY MEMBERS NOT CATTLE SO DONT YOU DARE IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS OR BEING AS PISSED OF AS YOU ARE EVER SAY MY DOGS ARE CATTLE. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!!!!!!!! THEY ARE LOVED AND IF I COULD HAVE TAKEN THEM WITH ME TO ENGLAND I WOULD HAVE. HOWEVER I COULDNT. IT WAS ALL I COULD TO GET TICKETS SO MY HUSBAND COULD GO AND SEE HIS PARENTS WHO ARE IN THIER LATE 70S!!!! SO DONT ANY OF YOU DARE GO ATTACKING ME ON SUCH A PERSONAL LEVEL AGAIN. WHY DONT YOU GO BACK AND READ AND IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND READ IT AGAIN. THE FACT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DO BREED AND DON'T KEEP TRACK OF THIER PUPPYS IS WHAT CAUSES THE PROBLEMS. THE FACT THEY DONT EDUCATE THIER PUPPY PARENTS ON HOW TO CARE FOR THEM. WHAT TO FEED THEM, THAT THEY CAN BE NAUGHTY, THAT THEY GROW UP AND ARN'T LITTLE FURRY PUPPYS ANYMORE, THAT IS WHAT PUTS THEM IN SYSTEMS. THE FACT THEY AREN'T MICROCHIPED AND CAN'T BE TRACED BACK, THAT IS WHAT PUTS THEM IN THE SYSTEMS NOT JUST BREEEDING A LITTER. BE MAD, BUT DONT YOU BE MAD AT ME!!!
What you can't do math? its 25x25, BIGGER THAN MOST INNER CITY YARDS.2 of them. AND THE 3RD IS BEING ADDED. AS IS OUR ENTIRE 2 ACRE PROPERTY BEING FENCED, HOWEVER WITH SUCH FANATICS ON HERE, I SERIOUSLY DOUBT I'D LET THEM RUN FREE AS I CAN JUST SEE SOMEONE COMING UP AND POISONING THEM.
What you haven't read very well have you. I keep in touch with ALLLLLL of my puppy parents and MY puppys have microchips. WANT THE NUMBERS ON THEM???????? THAT WAY YOU CAN BE CERTAIN THAT MY PUPPYS AREN'T THE ONES IN THE SHELTER. GOT IT. IT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY PUPPIES AND THEY CAN ALWAYS COME BACK HERE. SO DON'T GO PREACHING YOUR OH THE HORROR STORY'S TO ME, BLAMING ME!!!!. Just try going to a shelter and offering to help...They flat out turn you down. Been there done that, thank you very much. And I have MY own horror stories with rescue that I really just AM NOT going to elaborate on. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. Guess you MISSED THE PART WHEN I COMMENDED THOSE THAT DO RESCUE.

The problem...RHENEGADE CHOWS wrote: ...be irresponsible... There are reports, that show that some of the drastic requirements of various breed standards mainly in those being shown to produce a "look" however pretty it is, can lead to many terrible health issues, regardless of certifications the dogs may have recieved. This is the reason for my being here. To openly say, "hey, look, there might be a problem.."

They are listed as the perfect Apartment dog, I wish Management companys would see that. Chows are better then cats in an Apartment.cheriekynb wrote: Ok, this may start a TOTAL different debate, but, I just CAN'T resist!! Yes they do make very good apartment pets. And they do well with 2-3 mile or more walks per day. You know what? Rotties make even better apartment dogs and so do Greyhounds, retired Greyhounds are COMPLETE couch potatoes.cheriekynb wrote: Ok, this may start a TOTAL different debate, but, I just CAN'T resist!! Lou, I get your cause. You need to realize that there will be breeders, this a fact. Educating on not just breed related illness is another thing that is seriously lacking. Showing pictures like that, (and I hope you don't mind if I use them to my puppy parents) to potential breeders and making sure that puppy's are kept in contact with, microchipped, that they know how to educate thier puppy parents on thier breed and training and grooming. There will be breeders. There will be breeders who sit in front of walmart in thier pick up trucks with big posters saying "PUPPYS 4-sale" And you know, you just KNOW that those puppy's dont stand a chance of finding a REALLLLY GOOD HOME. That they are the ones that end up in those pictures you have. You have to educate the breeders to care. But as you have seen on here and I have seen on here, there are people who don't want to hear what you have to say, who have thier own oppinions. They don't want to get help from someone who without her own control is listed as the breeder on 2 litters. However embarrased I may be. People may not be open to learning how to teach thier puppy parents. So, we know legistlation isn't going to the extreme that you like, you have to find a comprimise, a common ground. Pay into rescue like you said, or even prove you are doing rescue. One or the other. If you dont want to get your hands dirty, then pay to the people who do. Even better, I will promise to give (within reason) to a rescue organization... someone on here if they can prove they are legitimate. I'll stand up and say that is so totally fair. To make sure that puppy owners are aware of allll the things that puppys can do. They are like 1 and 2 year olds with teeth and more agile. They can do some damage. I saw somewhere an article that was about how much thier "free" puppy cost them. It was REALLLLY good. I could go on, its about educating. And.. you educated me, that breeders do need to find a way to contribute to those who are helping. I do my own part with educating my puppy parents. See what I include physically on my page. The literature, is loads of printed material, mostly from Wisconsin Chow resuce sight. From other sites about grooming. It was a nice thick packet. Along with the spay neuter contracts. I do offer breeders... doesn't mean I have sold any. As I too don't want the "Oh I have a male chow and we really want him to have puppy's" person buying a bitch from me. It's not going to happen. Sorry I have those emails. I respond in a positve way so as not to scare them off. Because if I dont try to educate them and just yell at them, they will go away, and they will buy someplace else and they will not know. Anyways... I am going to stop here, as once again, I know this will fall to deaf ears.... I am ready for the crucifiction.. let it commence... I mean.. I can do no right.. right.

Jeff and Victory - Ok, then WHY bring up (not either of you) facts like "yard size" and stuff like that. I live in Sonoma County - the LEASH LAW is taken VERY seriously! A few years ago a sheep rancher hung a dog from the LEASH LAW SIGN!! They actually posted the pic of this in the local newspaper. OMG!!
Sid is: in the house, in his pen (about the size of a good sized livingroom WITH a shelter (the size of a small bedroom).. I think HIS shelter is bigger then my kitchen!.. haha.. anyways, sorry topic hopped,
House, Pen, Parents front yard, or on a leash.
He doesn't have a crate because I'M not comfortable with those.
AND!! I know EXACTLY what you mean about Greyhounds! My Aunt has 3 retired Greyhounds and NOW a baby Great Dane all living in a house in LA.

Oh wait, I'll get there before any of you.... The only thing you haven't ragged on are my microchips... so you can forget your debate or arguement with me there, you see, on the registration papers to UABR, and I have a photo if any of you like, its a dual registration, to both AVID petrac and UABR. So my puppy parents don't have a choice about registering thier microchip, and UABR keeps me informed when my puppy parents register. And should one not register, well, the microchip is still registered to me, and it will always show me on the chip as the original purchaser and breeder. So No matter what I know I will be notified if the puppy parent fails in thier responsibility. So feel free to do the "I use Home Again, they are better... " blah blah blah... One of mine actually has a homeagain chip... and its registered with AVID.

That's why I feel that the reopening of Bob's Big Boy is so important, the meat patties were much more easier on the puppies teeth then today's leaner meats.
Plus they offered car hops so you could enjoy the zesty taste of a Bobs Big Boy in the comfort of your car along with your Chow, you just had to make sure you didn't spill any of Bobs secret sauce on your upholstery.
Just my 2 cents worth on a puppies teeth.

"...I have 2 runs, 2 100sq ft runs with shelters."
Yes I can do the math.
2 runs.
2 100 sq ft runs.
Unless there was typo and you meant to say 2100 sq ft?
10x10=100 theres one run...100 sqft
10x10=100 theres another....100 sqft
100+100=200 ft of runs for two dogs.
If they were 25X25 then that = 625sq ft which even if you have two doesn't look anything like 100 or 2100.
And if they are house pets, then isn't that admitting that they have constant access to each other? And would not that promote more litters? And if they are house pets than why all the kennels and runs?
You just gearing up to crank out those puppies aren't you?
And while you may possibly keep an eye on those you have produced what of their offspring? And theirs? And theirs? You gonna microchip and track all of those too? You going to pay for all those spays and neuters yourself to insure the purity and sanctity of your bloodline?
Oh and your "I tried to help but they didn't want my help so don't even go there!' ........puhlease!
Here's an idea....spay and neuter the ones you got, use those big 'ol runs and shelters you have and start rounding up all the Chows and Chow mixes and start a rescue. YAY!

So, in other words, if I want a puppy just to love, and there are none available in rescues that will send a puppy to Alaska, I am supposed to NOT have a puppy BECAUSE the only way to get one would be through a "BYB"? Oh, and I don't have a fenced yard, so most wouldn't adopt to me anyway. Leo is on a chain (yes, I said it) when he is outside. Notice I said WHEN. He lives inside with us, but prefers to be outside with my girls when they are out playing. Since I don't want him to run off and be road kill, he is on a 30 ft chain when outside.
So, where is one supposed to get a chow puppy without paying $3000 from a show breeder?

It IS really hard to get a Chow from a rescue ESPECIALLY if you don't have a fenced in yard!!! I know because I tried! Not the first time around but that's only because the lady who volunteered at the rescue place actually WORKED with my Mom. Different set of circumstances. AND some of the breeders, I talked to (NOT HERE SO DON'T GET OFFENDED) were down right RUDE!!kitcatak wrote:So, in other words, if I want a puppy just to love, and there are none available in rescues that will send a puppy to Alaska, I am supposed to NOT have a puppy BECAUSE the only way to get one would be through a "BYB"? Okay, you invite criticism, and get upset when you get what you ask for. You are either a professional breeder, or a hobbist. If you are putting it out there that you are a breeder (which you are), then expect to get people calling you out on your mistakes. If you are simply a hobbyist (BYB), admit it, and we will cut you the same slack as we did for the folks who bred Leo.

Some folks that partially agree with you might just change their opinion when they realize who Bob Wendt is- Purple Kisses imparticular might be giving pause for thought. She got her Chow there. http://www.geocities.com/rhrhorse/RHRCHOWCHOWS.html I don't think she realized which breeder you were defending. Which Chow did he sell you? I'm with Auddymay, I have gotten to where I just skim through Renegades posts and pick out something to nail her with, we could do this forever, but she just doesn't get it and probably never will. We all know good ol' Bob repeated Chinger's breeding even after he knew Chingers had a seriously bad bite problem, the idiot could have at least tried to pair them up with another dog, yep, good ol' Bob is who I want to base my breeding stock on, NOT!!!

It actually was MY math that was off as my husband so pointed out. One run is 25x25 and one is about 35x25. and the sqare footage is as you said, I guess close to 625+square feet. That is where they like to play on nice days. When it was just Belle and Bliss pre first heat, they ran free in my house and in the run together and on our deck. It is on the deck that they mainly played, and our deck isn't your average deck, It wraps in an L shape around the back of our house and is quite big. SO they could come in and go as they pleased. It is there where my son saw them tie. No drops of blood on the deck or in the house...I've already done this.. go back and read it.Sojourner11 wrote:"...I have 2 runs, 2 100sq ft runs with shelters."

After that first "oops" we kept them separate, I have crates and baby gates alllllll through my house... you must not have children. Its quite easy to have dogs in my house and not have one touch another. and there are my crates, when I need to vacuum etc, and its rainy I use my crates, as dogs must go pee and they get wet etc, so they have towels in thier crates a nice warm dry place and I don't have wet slippery floors. Especially young puppies. If my eyes are not on them, they are in crates.
What part of "they are on a spay nueter contract" do you not understand? It all goes back to keeping an eye on your puppy parents.
And oh yes, I did try to take some chows from our local shelters, They want you to be a non profit organization with all sorts of this and that... you can't just have a good heart and a place to put them and a will to find them a forever home. So Puhlease yourself. As far as working with an organization who already has the this n thats.. yep.. done that, and wow, 8 years ago. How they could take advantage of a family with 3 kids and one income, and get MONEY from SELLING oh wait I mean... (donation) of $350 per puppy that I rescued at 3 weeks old FROM A DUMPSTER and raised and gave medical too, and they come in and stake claim to them, and SELL THEM.. oops I mean donation again, and not reimburse us one DIME after promising to do so if they got the puppies.. all 7 PUPPIES. I could have placed them, but oh no... they had to do it... I just got to raise them and pay for thier medical and care, and she knew we were strapped but sort of had the space. I had 12 rescues, 2 dogs of my own, 3 kids and one income.. and they took advantage of us in a big way. I wasn't a breeder until recently....I showed and did rescue. And unless you were part of an organization that had the NFP status, shelters wouldn't let you do anything, I couldn't adopt them and re adopt them out myself as its on thier contract... So YES they didnt want my help.
