Buddy's surgery has been postponed until October. I got a second opinion and he suggested that Buddy lose about 10 pounds first. I REALLY liked this place much better and it's a LOT less expensive and they have many years experience. I feel better about this already.

I am glad you found a place you feel comfortable. I honestly believe when we are comfortable w/ the vet our pets are not as anxious. That makes all the difference.
10 lbs?? Thats alot of weight.
How much does Buddy weight? He has such a beautiful fluffy coat & that probably weights 10 lbs in itself. Well he may have had some of tose beautiful flowers in the back ground stuck in his coat & I bet that made a difference on the scale. :^o What a handsome man he is.

73 lbs? hmmm Thor was 85 lbs. He was a BIG dog though. People thought he was a neuphie. (sp?) plus he had some lab in him. but still Im sure the hair that furball had was about 20lbs in itself.. LOL..
When they groomed him, they had to "shape" him because his hair would grow so long.

I too am glad you found a place where you are comfortable. It's always a better experience.

Give that handsome fluffball a hug from me.

Buddys sugery is now scheduled for 09/12/06. This vet said we shouldn't wait. I'll be glad when he gets this done so we can go for long walks again. I know the post-op healing will take quite a while. He's limping pretty badly, so I'm anxious to get this done and I know Buddy will be too!

Hi Buddy,
I've been out of commision w/ my back & getting caught up.
He is VERY handsome mom. I'm glad he won't have to wait until Oct. at least he won't be so unconfortable.
73 lbs, wow, he's a large, handsome man. Irish is 63 & I thoght that was large until Chris mention Thor's weight.... wow!! You'll be in our thoughts & prayers & please keep us posted on Buddy.

Hi Dana

I'm glad Buddy's surgery has been brought forward - it must be very difficult to see him in pain everyday. Buddy is indeed very good looking - beautiful coat of fur too.

Hang in there - give Buddy a hug from us.

Post-op

Buddy's surgery went well. They kept him at the clinic and kenneled him while I went to Hawaii for my 50th birthday. They took EXCELLENT care of him and actually I felt better with him being there. Because of my previous back surgery I definitely couldn't lift him, even if it was with the sling holding up his back legs. I don't have anyone to help me with Buddy and it's difficult because he can be aggressive towards people getting too close. I checked on him often and received good news every time. It was so good to see him when I got home. I was gone 2 1/2 weeks. He seems to feel better already. His incision site looks good. I take him back in four weeks for a check up. Thanks to all of you for your kind messages, information and chow advice.

Hey dana! So glad he was able to get his surgery! I just wanted to repost this... this is a diary of chewies early recovery from surgery.

Just in case you needed to see someone else going through it. If you need to talk about anything Buddy is going through, please PM me. I am happy to see it went so well.

Seems like you missed the hardest part (the first few weeks) so the recovery should be pretty easy from here on out. Good luck!

Hi Buddy & Dana:
So glad to hear your handsome man is doing well.
Take it easy Buddy. You're thinner (not that I thought you needed to loose weight) all fixed up......
and watch out girls in the neighborhood - here comes Buddy ;)

Happy belated 50th bday! Hope you had a blast!

Good luck with the weight loss. I've been trying to get Pip to lose weight for 2 years now, I think she is as light as we will get her. She is still round like a canister vacuum, but she has about 10% less weight than when we first started her 'diet'. Unless I'm ready to step up her exercise, this is as good as it will get. Being she is 10, I'll let her be a little full figured.
