Thoughts On adult size?
Hi New here this is our 1st post...We have 2 chows a smooth coat chow, which we were told by the Central NY chow rescue, she was an "in betweener"and she is 8 months and we have a male rough coat almost 4 months old...And we also have a almost 4 month old male Airedale terrier, and a 6 month old male collie...yes we have a few dogs... We were wondering on any guesses on how big our male chow will get he is now already 28 lbs and is 15 inches at the shoulders...We were told by the rescue place that he would maybe get to be 50 pounds and our vet said maybe 60 lbs...He is already 28 lbs and just almost 4 months old...LOL...were thinking he should be bigger are we correct or are they more on the right size he will be? Thanks for any help....

Re: Thoughts On adult size?
At 6 months he will be approximately 60% of his adult size. Most male chows fall in the 55 - 70lb range. But there are some that are bigger than that and some that are smaller. I think your boy will be about 55 or so when fully grown. And for a male chow that can actually take 3 years. Of course if he is already neutered he may never develop the muscle and bone he would if he were intact.

there is no definite way to know how big they'll be until they are full grown. My mix boy was 45 lbs at 6 months and he now weighs close to 115 lbs at almost 3 years. He is ALL muscle, not fat. But again, he is part lab, but I thought he was gonna be smaller than he is.

It is SO dependent on their genes, it is really hard to tell like Jess said. My current boy was about 28lbs at 6 months, he only weighs 45lbs full grown, he barely makes it to the norm for a male chow's height. His litter mate sister, is also small. Wait until he is 6 month you'll have a better idea and can judge more from then.
Also if you are worried about how he'll deal with the Airedale, don't be, chows have the personality, tenaciousness and muscle mass to take on and win against dogs 4 times their size and even bears! As for general playing, chows are known to be rough and tough when they play, so having bigger strong playmates is usually a good thing as they can be their rough, tough selves and not accidently hurt the other dog.

Thanks for the info...I will see what he weighs at 6 months im guessing 45 ish pds by then..lol...Were not worried about him with the Airedale...we have a female chow thats 8 months she is a tough little girl...she only weighs like 38-39 lbs she mite get a little bigger..We also have a 6 month old collie he weighs maybe 40 pds he should get to 75-80 ,he is we think the Alpha male right not...could be the airedale next...he seems to be taking over..He should be a 100 lb or maybe even heavier then that and 28/29 inches at the shoulders he will be a big boy ...Oh and the Airedale was breed to hunt and kill bear so the chow would have his hands full...lol....the Airedale also has a huge tolernace for pain...basically they dont feel it....Kodi our male chow he is tough no doubt...the good thing is there all growing up together,so there a happy family.and they dont have to fight just PLAY.....oh yeah we have 3 cats too...all get along...
