They're here : )

Post by Sirchow »

Izzie had her babies on Sunday night five days early but all are safe and well. They are growing steadilly and very active and strong.
We have two black boys who inseperable although their eyes are shut so how do they know what colour they are?
Two cream girls who are also inseperable....one was a very late comer...born five hours after the others and I had to ressucitate her.
Then there is Mr Adventurous. Mr A is already indiependant and a little naughty...he likes to use his superior weight to push the others off the teat but I notice the cream girls shout loudly enough at him he stops. Amazing how they have little personalities already.

Dad is a cream Sarahloo and Izzie's mom and several others in the family. I would have been surprised had we not got any creams but truth be told I love all the colours and would have been happy what ever they were if they were fit and well.
I forgot that they were due on your B'day Auddymay. They just couldn't wait to get here. :D
Maybe I should call him Sully and not Mr A. It sounds nicer

Congratulations, what a good girl Izzie is, the pups are adorable. I was just thinking about Izzie last night, wondering if the pups were here yet.

Really adorable pups. You'll be very busy in the next 6-8 weeks then! . With deworming, vaccination and vitamins, cleaning up and hours of just plain watching them. The latter will eat up a lot of your time but I had problems resisting not to hang around just a few minutes more everytime.

Thank you all so much for all you kind words and congratulations. The joy this bunch bring is enormous but the responsibility is huge too.

Do you know at the risk of sounding like I am giving a lecture it came home to me this am how the whole business of breeding with care is a about the whole life of your chow. How you bring them up and socialise them makes them the mum they are...what you feed them, exercise and health makes them able to withstand the strain. A healthy relationship with their owner makes their welbeing and mental attitude to puppies so much easier. Izzie looks to me to help her and this am she left them for nearly half an hour because I took them in the kitchen with me in a box with a hot bottle. She kept checking through the window I was there and when I went out of site she flew through the door but on seeing me she skidded to a halt and went back out. It is very touching but she knows I care as much as her. She has not been without her problems through birth with a vet visit half way through for a scan which saved the life of number five. Breeding can never be about money it is not a paying job for me - vet visits, blood test, mating, huge amounts of fresh meat at the mo as she wont eat anything not cooked by my fair hands, the list goes on and on. Then there is hip and elbow scoring, eye tests and so on. I suppose I get very annoyed when I see people just buying two random dogs and letting them mate with not a lot of thought past what coloured puppies they will produce to make the most money. I spent a year looking for the right stud dog and have a lot of respect for some stud owners who honestly said they didn't think their dog was suitable. Pedigrees and health needs to be looked at over generations....so much to think about and lastly for all the joy these little guys bring I am on call 24/7 with no time off for good behaviour. I sleep with them, eat with them and play with them. OK folks lecture over. :D

Lecture lol, not even close! More like ramblings of a very proud grandparent. Well done to you ( and of course Izzie) for being so focused on the breeding ethics that some peole seem to have forgotten. (You see a lot of un-ethical cat breeders that are just focused on their next big screen tv from sale of kittens! ) Ok no rambling for me I have had my say elsewhere this morning. Congrats again they are gorgeous and may they find equally loving homes ( if you can bear to let them go)

I pretty much knew from conception where they were going. I do have a bit of a struggle in my heart about the little one that was born five hours after the others and I had to revive. (she wears the lilac ribbon) Scarey stuff as I had never seen it done before. She tugs my heart strings but a part of me thinks I bred these puppies for my daughter to have one and I do have a home for her if I dont keep her and my two girls were enough before I saw her. So I am stuck feeling I would just be being selfish keeping her as the other two will get less cuddles and I know the home she would have is the best ever. I just dont know what to do. Sooo hard to decide. :?
My homes are chosen very carefully and there will be a contract to sign for each owner to insist they bring them back if ever they cant keep their pup. It will be so hard to let them go but I really cant keep four of them :D
Any thoughts.......

Loads of thoughts lol! But as for helpful ones, hmmm, I guess if you knew you wouldn't be able to keep them all then maybe you can just be thankful that the homes you decide on would be somewhere you would like to see them raised. I know that does't help any but as an ex cat breeder I know how difficult it is 'letting go' especially when you take them through such an eventful time of their lives. We did however keep just one kitten out of our little girls last litter, only because she was the colour I wanted ;) One last thing, you obviously absolutely adore your babies, do you have enough hours in the day to cuddle, kiss, smush one more?
