Well, let's look at the numbers for a second.

Spitzer has about 80 million, or so I hear.
Mrs. S is gonna get at least half. or 20 mil.
Let's say they have been married 30 years.
If Elliot got full first class service 365 nights a year, which is not likely,
Mrs. nets about $3650a night, so it's not that much more for professional treatment.
You could even say he was being thrifty, since the top-of-the-line ladies were charging $5500, but maybe he got a frequent customer discount. They didn't say on the news here.

Mrs. also got all her expenses covered during the contract, plus fringe benefits.

Even if you don't adjust for depreciation, it's probably still more cost effective for the Gov to rent rather than own.

At the very least, it's a change to see a Democrat politician using his own money to screw a willing professional, instead of their typical practice of using we taxpayers money to screw the whole public. Hope it's the start of a trend

Canada has a different approach to the issue. The "call-persons" are refered to as "s*x-trade workers" and in some areas have unions and lobbyists. One of the recurring questions before the city council in Vancouver, a few years ago at least, was where they could set up a "safe stroll" for the street level workers, so the police could protect them and residential neighborhoods wouldn't be affected. As reported, apartments in her building go from $3000 a month for a studio, up to $11,000 a month. She actually lives in a nicer building than the Spitzers. Aside from the magazine offers, she just made close to a million this week from people downloading her songs from a website. She will no doubt clear several million more from media offers in the next few months. Not bad for a 22 year old high school drop-out!

She is obviously better at her job than Spitzer was at his.

As for the neighbors, they probably just thought she was another goofy heiress ala Paris Hilton / Nicole Richie / Britany Spears et al.
