Pictures of your Chows for SavingChows.com

Post by Sojourner11 »

I know I may have covered this in a much earlier post, BUT, for those willing to have their Chow shown on http://www.savingchows.com could put the pic they want to use up with a short line giving permission to use it it would be a great help.

Also, if you have a rescued Chow, and wish to write up a short story about it (along with your photo) please feel free to submit those as well.

Video may be used too, in fact this will be more of a video based site. So break out those Zoomie clips!!!

You can also send them directly to me at sojourner11@msn.com

This is Sullivan and her brother Gilbert. Sullivan came from a shelter eight years ago, and Gilbert from a rescue group. My husband picked Sullivan at the shelter after I'd pestered him for five years to get a dog -- she is a complete daddy's girl. We got Gilbert a couple years ago as a companion for Sullivan -- she actually chose him, but this picture is deceiving. He is not her favorite dog, person, or any other species. Therefore, we got a little non-chow from a shelter, Charlie, who is the same age as Gilbert, and they love to play, and Sullivan views as her "baby." They are all wonderful dogs with distinct personalities. That's the coolest thing about rescues -- they love being in a safe home. We're partial to mixed breeds since each one is unique, but, except for Charlie, we'll always get something mixed with a Chow -- simply the best.

(I don't know why the picture didn't come out from photobucket, but you can access it with the link, and you have our complete and sincere permission to use pictures, the story, whatever will help.

Maxwell

Post by Dogdad »

Sean you have permission to use the photos and story

This is Maxwell, an incredible boy with a very sad story. He was put in a shelter twice, both times by the same people. When I saw him on petfinder he was marked Urgent, the rescue told me he was days away from being put down. I instantly saw his kindness and capability to love in his picture even though he looks sad and quite pathetic. I was nervious because I never had a chow before. I am so glad I adopted him. He is the sweetest kindest soul I have every know.
Here is what he looked like when I saw His photo and this is Maxwell now

Yoshi

Post by Dogdad »

Sean you have permission to use the photo and story:

This is Yoshi, He is around 2 years old when I adopted him from a rescue. He was 20 pounds underweight, had pneumonia, worm infested and was leary of humans. He had a trip from California to Wisconsin to reach his new home and the expense and bother was well worth it. The first thing was to get him healthy and up to weight which was easy thanks to a proper diet and good veterinarian care. The socialization came slowly but it did come. Now Yoshi will happily come up to strangers, give them purple kisses and enjoys spending time with his family. His favorite things are to get tummy scratches, play in the snow and to go for long walks and meet the neighbors and his neighborhood dog friends.

Here is our rescue chow / retriever mix. He was from Pets & People. He changed alot lives. I cannot tell his story yet , he passed over the rainbow last year and it still hurts too much. But this beautiful dog helped alot of folks after his rescue. He was adopted at 10 months old and his second trip in the shelter. Owner said he got too big.
Here is a link for his pic. Please feel free to use it. We would be honored . Shandi this black chow was rescued from a person that wanted to have her put to sleep for being vicious which she is not. She just needed love.

Ok I know Tippsy was never in danger of being put to sleep or being put in a shelter but you do have to think that she is technically a rescue...

My cousin bought Tippsy from a breeder and about two months later decided she was too big and couldn't care for her. She gave her to her mom, who had her for about three to four months. Of course then she decided she was too big to keep so she picked me to have her. She has been with me now for six and a half years and I'll NEVER let her go.

This pick was taken at my aunts house the first time I saw Tippsy.

And this is Tippsy now.

I'm not sure I love this picture but all our recent pictures have Bel in them who is a rescue but not a chow. I will try to take more of just Ginger this weekend.

Anyway...this is Ginger. Her shelter name was Shae. She was in the Rutherford County Shelter with her two brothers and sisters where we adopted her. She is a chow mix-we just haven't figured out with what yet. It doesn't really matter though because she is the sweetest girl I could ever ask for.
Not sure if that's what you are looking for.
You have permission to use any pictures of Ginger you would like.

You always have permission to use Tess and Fiona for anything. You helped make Fiona's trip north possible!

Tess's story...
Tess was found running in the woods in McConnellsville, Ohio near the National Guard Armory where my dad worked. On a weekend when they had drill, they noticed what they thought was a bear cub hanging our near the edge of the woods. Curiosity got the best of the men at the site, so when they went closer to see what the animal was, they noticed it was a dog instead of a bear. They had some food left over from lunch and used that to lure her to them. When my dad saw it was a black chow, similar to the one our family had lost just three weeks before, he knew he had to bring her home. Tess came to live with us severly underweight, covered from head to toe with ticks and fleas. She has worms, making her stomach bloat out. She had been tied out, possibly her entire life, evident from the long line of ski rope she was dragging with her, not even attacted to a collar, just tied. Her fur was sunburnt, and coming out in large clumps. She was scared to death of people, but never showed even the slightest hint of aggression.

Fiona's story

Here are the pictures I have on Photobucket...I have hundreds more that I can add if none of these will work.

Hi Sean,
You are always Welcome to use Kyra's pic and story anytime  Kyra was 11 weeks old when the BYB who had her tryed to have her put to sleep because she had Entropian and said she was the most visious Chow she had ever seen. She said she could never be around children or other dogs. She had bitten her 8 yr old daughter when she stuck her arm in between Kyra and her litermate while they were fighting. Because of the quarintine period of ten days Animal Control couldn't put her to sleep and a rescue had gotten her, a member from Alaska posted her story under the topic of Your Not Going To Believe This.....I saw it and said, If I lived closer I would take her....The members of this site, with SPECIAL THANKS to Carla (RENANGADE CHOWS)who drove 6 hrs with her children and her sweetheart Mom who flew her down here....Kyra came to live with us from Va. We had her eyes fixed and with lots of LOVE and CARE she is a happy, beautiful almost grown up and her favorite person is 4 yrs old, she LOVES children, and has been a wonderful companion to my other Chow. I believe that the BYB wanted to have her put to sleep because she had Entropian and she couldn't sell her that way so instead of spending the money to fix her eyes she was trying to have her put to sleep. It breaks my heart to think of what could have happened to her at the hands of the very person who bred and produced her, and what our family would have missed. She is a very loved member of our family.

Nice story, Vickie and everyone else too.
I actually don't know much about my dog's
backgrounds. The humane society said
Sullivan had been attacked by another
dog in the home (now why would they get
rid of her if that's true?), and Gilbert
had been in a couple shelters and the
rescue group before we got him. We
knew a couple of his names before: Reno,
then Kirby (which is one of his middle
names), but that is why we call Gilbert
our "special needs" kid, because all
that moving around is probably why he's
still a little neurotic. We have no
idea about Charlie, though he
technically doesn't count, except he
was a family surrender.

Aaaw! Jess - I had missed Tippsy's story - that is sweet.
I suppose in a way, Mabel is technically a rescue too. She and Milly are litter sisters and they both left their mother on the same day - Milly came to us and Mabel to their sire's people, when they were 6 weeks old.
When they were just 6 months old, we heard that Mabel needed to be rehoused so we bought her and brought her home.
The sire's people were breeders and decided that Mabel was not up to standard - not big enough to show and/or breed so we brought her home and here she stays!
Just as well we got her then because when she and Milly were about 18 months old, they both had to have emergency operations for pyometra so she would not have done for showing or breeding!
Bless her, she is beautiful.

She is on the right as you look at the picture, with her beautiful chow grin. :D

That's a great story Judy. :D
I think if I hadn't gotten Tippsy then she would've probably been passed from home to home until she did finally end up in a shelter... I'm really greatful to have gotten her though. :D

You're very welcome to use Milo's story etc.

Milo was found as a stray in Reno & sprung from the shelter (who wanted to PTS as he was so agressive...) by Kathy of the North Calif Chow Rescue. Reno, as he was called then, was looked after wonderfully by Kathy until I saw him on CC.org. Milo needed to find a new home as AC wanted him (again, they though he was aggressive) so DH & I drove down to Southern Oregan from Seattle to meet Kathy. Milo approved of us (he nixed as other potential adopters by showing his growly side) & we loved him deeply until he left us. Milo is running free now & one day will be with me again.

Cinder was picked up as a stray by animal control and never claimed. I saw her on an Illinois Chow Rescue site that has been defunct since shortly after that, she had been at a shelter for a few months already when we went to see her. The shelter staff warned me that she took a while to warm up to people but she came into the room wagging her tail and came right up to me, smelled my hand and let me scratch under her chin. She was about 10 lbs underweight and her coat was dull and dry but she had a twinkle in her eye.

She and Tasha, my twelve year old chow, ignored each other at the shelter. So the next day my husband and I went back to pick her up. When I opened the hatch she jumped right in. (She hasn't done that since, instead waiting with her front feet on the bumper for me to lift her in).

That night when I was ready to go to bed, I said "bedtime" and she beat all of us to the master bedroom, jumped on the bed and curled up in a ball at the foot in the middle, like she had been sleeping there forever. (Again, she has never made the jump without assistance since that first day).

Teddy's story is here: http://www.chowchow.org/forum/viewtopic ... blind+chow and here
http://www.chowchow.org/forum/viewtopic ... blind+chow

After fostering him, we couldn't resist becoming his forever family. He is sleeping on my foot and Cinder is lying next to him right now.

Here are some pictures. http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/chow_fancier/
You are welcome to use their stories and any of the pics you like. Let me know if you need anything else. I'm happy to help in anyway I can.

Here is my story of adopting Sophie and a couple of pictures:

I had gone into the Humane Society to check out a little chow-mix they had listed with no pictures. Honestly, I wasn’t looking for myself. I was going to get more information and post her on the Chows Chows that Need a Home section of the forum. I filled out the forms needed to go through the doors to look at all the dogs. Sophie was in the very first kennel. She was curled up as far back in the kennel as she could get. I had to squat down to see her. I quietly said hello and she lifted her head a little bit and gave me the once over. She was so shy. A yappy terrier was right next to her and he was demanding my attention. So I just swiveled on my toes to say hello. That is when I noticed that Sophie had approached the front of her kennel to get a better look at me. She was skinny and blowing her coat, but she had the most beautiful eyes. I just knew with some love, good food and grooming she was going to be a gorgeous girl. I always think she came to the front to let me know that I was the one for her. I’d come to late that day to see her privately, but I promised her I’d come back the next day. When I came the next day, I had to wait ½ hour before a room came open to see her. So, I stayed back by her kennel. Once again she was hiding in the back of the kennel until she saw me grouch down so I could talked to her. She was caution but curious. We meet with counselor who told me about Sophie and her puppies (who were in a separate kennel down the hall from Sophie’s). I ask where they were sure about her being a chow-mix, since she looks more like a shepard. Oh, yes, they said she is very chow like in her personality. I then took her out for a walk in the snow. Sophie just came alive out there in the snow, playing and bouncing and running. Before I knew it, I was make arrangements to adopt myself. I never did post her to the Chows Chows that Need a Home section.
