Ears

Post by RIPPER »

Ok So this one is kinda wierd.....

Yester day while brushing my Akita/chow...I noticed that right below his ears in his mane the he has what appears to be another set of ears..It blew my mind when i noticed them cause i have had him for about 9 months ..Is this a common thing with mixed/chows? .I am gonna take him to the vet tomorrow to see if he has 4 ears or not....

heres Bali (he is scared of the camera for some reason)

Check out the black dog at the bottom of my reply- that is Pippy my Chow/Lab mix. She looked just like your new boy when she was small. I agree, it's probably a whooping mat.

My chow Mikki looks very similar to yours She has drop ears. I clean the area where the ear's fold is. Then I use a dry cotton batten and wipe the inside very gently. With both ears folded, debris can get lodged between the folds, also mats can develop within 2 or 3 days. Mikki also has lots of hair inside the ears.

That is why it is really important to brush behind thier ears everyday. I only brush Ivana and Ziyear once a week but behind the ears everyday. The hairbehind and just below thier ears is very fine and mats easily.
Have a Chowfastic Day!!

Ping has an extra ear too. I practically have to sit on her to groom her. :-L

How sweet... my boy Zhuyo's middle name is "Bali". Unfortunately, another set of ears is an anomoly. I hope it is just a mat so Bali does not have to go through reconstructive surgery if that is called for. Give him a hug from us!
