Info on Blind White CL Chow

Post by KasperKisses »

Thread is locked but wanted to let all know that "sitter" had contacted me and I asked her to take it off Criags List. First off, it appears the owner doesn't know she is trying to re-home them..he lost his house, has to move and is out of town right now. She was told he was going to take them to SPCA when he returns..thus the listing. She will have him get in contact when he returns. Hopefully she will do that and I'll update when/if she does.
How many Chows does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one if you're Kasper. Hold on and the world revolves around him!!!

I hope they'll all be o.k., especially the blind cream boy. The SPCA doesn't sound like a very good place...especially for him.

I worry more about the two black ones then the blind boy. He is adorable and would attract more attention from rescues or kind hearted people I think then the two blacks. Hope we get updated.
Curious why the thread was moved and locked too.

If these three chows were to be surrendered to the county humane society by the woman who posted the craigslist ad, they would have been in excellent hands. It is the county I live in and the county where they don't euth chows. Miss Pooh Bear came from this humane society. Also, they partner with an excellent rescue org by the name of "Pets In Need". If the three chows were to be placed at the shelter, they will enroll the blind boy in their "Hope" program and provide any additional medical/specialist care and then get him into a qualified foster and finally a home. They will most likely put the brother and sister team as "adopt as a couple only". The shelter does several fundraising events and have been fortunate that they often go above their goal. Thus making it possible to create different programs for different needs with the animals that get surrendered to the humane society, ending the needless euthanization of adoptable animals. It took us 20 years to get to this point, but it's an excellent humane society.

To bad the lady and owner that has the Chows dosn't know that, maybe they should be told.

If she lives in this county, she should already know about the PHS. It's the only SPCA in our county. We're a small county and Pacifica is a small coastal town with their own tiny newspaper where the PHS has their own section. They do mobile adoptions in front of their only two grocery stores. The free Spay and Neuter RV goes to the town quarterly. We don't know what this person's real motivation was - maybe she was fed up with chow sitting, maybe offered for a little time and can't keep the blind chow too long as her apt might be too cramped. I can understand that. Maybe she meant well; however, her post on Craigslist was reactive and reckless, especially saying they were all out there for "free" in the sometimes dangerous Craigslist community. It also was not true - when she said she had the owner's permission. Thanks Kathi for getting a hold of her. Now the owner and the sitter have a good person to touch base with.

I did let the woman know that if the chows were taken to the SPCA they would be well cared for and more than likely better off than just giving them to some unknown person off CL. I thought the thread was locked because it wasn't somone looking for a home for their chow, just a posting of what someone saw. So can't answer that one jeff. The only reason I knew it was on CL was because several people emailed about the CL ad, and Dave (Loki's owner) had called me and told me there was something on this site about another CL listing for chows. At that point, I had already spoke to the woman and explained the reasons for removing the ad from CL.
She emailed me again today and said that she doesn't believe any of the dogs have been spayed/neutered, nor had shots. Some relatives are caring for the 2 blk chows at the owners home (going by and giving them food, she believes they were left in the backyard). She is going to try and contact the relatives and make sure that the dogs will be taken care of until the owners return or, if the house is already in forclosure that they will either call the SPCA or me.
And I'm not aware of any nor cal anything, cept for Pru's rescue. And Jeff...there's still time for you to foster Loki for Joan if you want to keep him down there!! Dave is driving up Sunday, I did tell him he could ask you about the foster thing but as far as I know he didn't. Lookee there!! A rescue giving up a dog!! But only because I know YOU would make sure he got a good home. Though it's clear you still haven't learned any manners:)
The owner will not be returning to the states until mid November..will keep you updated..

This is good news. I was worrried about the little blind white Chow boy. He looks like he has a great disposition - I saw his big smile & my heart went out to him. I told Mike about him and he said "don't even go there."

Awww maybe it's just too soon for Mike to think about a new Chow baby. It's nice that you're at least thinking about a new addition...one day Tess will lead one to your door...it happens all the time. I thought that blind cream boy was smiling too.

It's too soon for me too. I told Mike that I couldn't have another black Chow, because I would be looking in her/his eyes trying to see Tess. Maybe some day another, perhaps a cream or blue. I would certainly go for a rescue - someday....
