Advice with new puppy Oscar.

Post by danielle7770 »

Hello.
We have had our little male chow chow pup for a week now. He is just turning 9 weeks old tomorrow. We would appreciate any advice anyone has to offer on disciplining our dog. We love him very much but he has tendencies to bite around the ankles a lot and can become quite snappy at your fingers too while petting. We have tried saying NO loudly and giving a toy, and using time out periods. We haven't found either to be working any better. How long should it take for these discipline techniques to work. We have got him teething gel as well just in case that helps. Another problem we are currently having is that our little Oscar likes to jump into flower beds and eat some flowers or just mess in them in general. We have tried time outs to punish this behavior as well. We just would like to nip these problems in the bud before he gets any older and any stronger. Thanks for any advice in advance. :D

Good Luck! 11 weeks to 16 weeks is the worst of it. They will start nipping at your arms and feet and those teeth hurt. What we did? we exercised her using a flirt pole with a rope bone at the tip. we make her run in circles then when she starts panting or plopping down we stop the game and give her ice cubes as a treat. that only minimizes the biting when their energy is expelled. It's the gum itching age. I dunk rope bones in water and freeze it THEN give it her to munch. Coldness numbs the gums and chewing the rope bone scratches the itch.
