Newbie&&Stupid question

Hello.. Briefly.. im "hopefully" getting a chow puppy around early feb as they were born 28th dec Going to visit on the 26th jan.
I know alot of people have probably asked this question and a silly question lol! Basically we prefer the more ""fuller/fluffyer"" looking chows (closed face?) But the mother is quite open faced. I will love him EITHER WAY, but rest of family are like "dont want open face, prefer closed face. And alot of money to spend for a dog you dont ""prefer"" Obviously health comes before ANYTHING then its ""preference" But he's the last one (dog, as other people were on a waiting list - 3 bitches left but we've never had a bitch) The breeder has told us he is doing really well and very affectionate. Main concern ticked!
So my question is COULD you notice some differences(features) between a more "leaner(longer legs)/open faced" pup and a "shorter/closed" pup? I've read that you can soon as they are born, but not to look after 8 weeks old.. blah..

Just in curosity aswell..When the bitch is pregnant can the coat change. Go from pretty full to quite short and shaped looking(back/round face/neck)? I know hormones play a big factor in the amount of shedding and they loose the coat on the belly.

Puppies with very open faces are easilly detected as are puppies with very smooshie faces but there are as many inbetween types as there are chows nearly and many faces develope as they grow and it is difficult to tell at that age. They say a puppy at eight weeks looks very like it will as an adult. Look for how wide the lips are and if there are any wrinkles begining on her nose but truly once you have your baby you will love it best what ever it looks like.

Yur puppy should not be seperated from its mom before the 22nd of Feb which is when it is eight weeks old and many people would leave it longer but certainly not less. It is very important for its socialisation and development that it has this time with its mom and siblings. They learn to be careful how hard they bite and play from their siblings and how to interact with other dogs.

Mom will loose almost every atom of undercoat and much of her top coat over the next few weeks. It falls out after birth. Some sooner than others. She will most likely have lost all the fur on her tummy before the pups were born and by the time the pups are eight weeks she will look terrible My Izzie looked like a stray after 12 weeks and it was embarrasing taking her out in public as she looked like a retreiver gone wrong lol

Ooo thank you for clearing that up hahaa! Yess, im a sucker for any dog. Unattractive or not ^^. i always say you cant choose what your baby will look like, and you will love them unconditional. So this baby is no different . The only trouble is i will collecting mine but having 2 other pups stuffed in my jacket and another in my handbag heheee! My brother is 21 and is used to german sheps """"man dog"""" so said he only walking him if he's ""good looking"" he liessss he'll be cuddling and love him secretly when we aren't looking
I agree with you about staying till 8 weeks. She told us she would only let him go earlier if he was doing really well. Which i dont mind as long as he's healthy/happy and he is ready. Cant be rushed can it? Health always comes first
Awww bless izzie lol! I thought the coat did But wasnt sure! I can explain to my mom not the panic now She was like "whats happened to her? she the right dog!!" lol!
