He is beautiful, looks exactly like Pooh Bear!!!!! I just posted a pic of him the other day. He's only 3 months old, so I hope he is as beautiful as your baby when he gets older!

Fellow readers, I need your help.

The death of ShuShi (our 14-year-old Shih-Tzu) a month ago, took a heavy toll on Ivan.
The next day, he started limping slightly on his right front leg.
Since he had slipped and slided around two days earlier while playing
around in the balcony, we didn't think it was something serious.

But, in the next two days:
- He seems a bit lost (this was a bit expected).
- He stopped playing.
- He stopped any kind of activity in the house and just kept sleeping.
- The limp got worse and he struggled to stand upright.
- The right back leg seemed to "sway" from the center when he tried to walk.
- His hormones seemed to have awaken causing erections which make him anxious.

Only things that stayed the same: his appetite and his demand/request
to get out of the house.

But:
During our walk, he stopped a couple of times and sat on his butt for
a few seconds. He also tried to bite or scratch his back leg, which
seemed like it was itching him or causing him pain. At around the half
of our walk, his limp was noticeable (but way less comparing the one
while in the house).
His attitude while meeting dogs or people did not show any noticeable
difference (perhaps a bit less enthusiastic but still rather joyful).
However, after he had completed his "number two" business, he would
almost collapse: he would need to rest by lying down every 10 meters
(30 ft) or so. Returning home was a nightmare.

Blood tests came all negative. Tests for Ehrlichiosis, leishmaniasis,
Calazar negative too. His mineral levels (calcium etc) all good, with
the sole exception of Iron which was high. T3 was good too.
We went to the orthopaedic and got a couple of X-rays: leg, spine,
pelvis. All came clear. According to the doctor, there is no fear of
dysplasia, just a bit of a loose kneecap, which have already scheduled
for a follow-up in 6 months.
We did another blood test: The eosinophils were on the limits (still
on the healthy region) but nothing else bad.

Although the tests did not show something significant, the situation
is pretty much the same. Ivan seems almost like a ghost in the house
and during his walk, he almost looks like a shadow of himself: He can
stand only 1/3 of the total walk (20 mins, compared to 1 hour
previously) and during the second half of it he more or less drags
himself. Which seems a bit unnatural for a 11-month-old Chow.

He's got a scheduled appointment on Wednesday and till then, I am
trying to understand what's happening.

What I've noticed:
He has no noticeable muscular (or of similar nature) problem in any of
his legs, his back and his chest. He lets me search, shake, move or
rub without arguing (He may enjoy this too). He lets me do the same
things to his belly, but only when he has no erection (otherwise, it
becomes a "no touching" zone).
His butt has become his only "no touching ever!" area. This seems
weird since he used to show no reaction when I cleaned him if he
soiled himself during "number two". His exterior butt area shows no
sign of irritation, however it seems a bit rigid. By the way, when he
was younger he used to bark once after his "number two" and till he
got sick he did it while standing (did not bend the back legs).

The questions:
- Could the culprit be some kind of endoparasite?
(He is scheduled for Drontal in October, he will get Bravecto in the
next few days)
- Could the culrpti be some problem in the perianal glands (we got
them cleaned in April).
- What else could it be?

I am so sorry for what you are dealing with. My only thoughts are something neurological? What did you find out at the latest vet appt?

nothing :-(
The vet says that physically he has nothing wrong, and his problem is psychological. He suggested patience.

Hi. I'm a new chow owner. Bear is actually a mix, listed at the shelter a Samoyed/Chow. We have a 2 year old Samoyed. Bear may be anywhere from 8 to 12 years old. Has anyone every brought an older chow into their family where they also had another dog? We are having issues with Bear being to rough when they play. He has caused our Sammy to yelp a couple of time. No blood has been drawn. But a Sammy only wants to play, our Sammy doesn't know how to be aggressive, as most Sammys don't. Any advice, help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
