Is chow chow needs a dog house or a crate?

Hi guys. Just want to ask, is chow chow need a pet house or not? I think it's hard to train a dog if they are just playing around your house. Appreciate your reply.

My chow needs a place to hide, like a den or something to call hers. She is a rescue and very scared though. She lives under my son's bed. I guess that doesn't really answer your question but I can say she likes to have a place to call her own.

Nearly all the dog training books & websites I've come across recommend crate training. My home is small, so I'm using my bedroom as his "crate/den" for now. I plan to order a crate soon.
