HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
After 4 years of going back and fourth on this breed, and the death of my chihuahua, this year I decided its time to get a chow chow. So about 6 months ago I found this site, read through just about every article I could, found Janie at Shanghai Chows and gave her my deposit. This week Dr. Gonzo turned 8 weeks and on Wednesday I took him home with me.
Here is 4 weeks when I meet him at the breeders
Here he is the day I got him home at 9 weeks, quiet and curious.

Oh my goodness! what a cute little chowling. I can't believe that his little ears are already standing up so nice and straight. Welcome to the site and welcome to the world of chows. Feel free to ask anything.

Hello and welcome to the site. Dr. Gonzo is beautiful.
Snap, we have just brought a new puppy home - she is called Matilda and is just nine weeks old and we have had her a week.

Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
Thank you all for the great comments, and thank those of you who sent me private messages offering advice on anything I might think of! Im sure I will have some new questions soon enough.
Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
Beautiful, I won't pretend I'm not completely jealous though. Give him a big cuddle from me.
Also, brilliant name.

Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
We all feel a bit jealous when a new chowling is introduced. We are a greedy bunch, and would love to be able to squeeze a new little Chow muffin of our own, even though most of us already have one or more. Still, since it is not feasible to have new chowlings of our own, we live vicariously through the postings.

Hehe how true Auddy. I am completely dogless at the moment, for the first time in my life too so that's probably making me a bit more green than usual.Auddymay wrote:We all feel a bit jealous when a new chowling is introduced. But all the puppy pictures people are posting are adorable, please keep us updated as Dr. Gonzo grows.

Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
Here is an update on gonzo. He has turned one last month on the 15th, over the year we have been together, he pulled a muscle running at the dog park around 6 months, that has healed wonderfully. He has had 2 hot spots, once due to not getting a little shampoo out of his fur on the inside of his leg, the other was from an bug bite he chewed up overnight. Recently he had what the breeder, two vets and members of this fourm called excessive shedding. Gonzo was poked and prodded, a thousand dollars in test later reveal nothing. All his "patches" of lost fur have started to come back nicely this last month, now the vets say it was likely his first major shedding of his puppy fur, being all the fur that is cumming back is much darker red than the original. Hopefully year two will be trouble free for the little (66lb) guy.
Here are some various pictures taken in the last 3 months.

Re: HELLO! Meet Dr. Gonzo
Wow. He's grown into a VERY handsome boy. For the shedding and skin conditions, watch for corn and wheat in his food. Not good. With the economic problems we're having some pet food companies are going for cheaper ingredients and have changed their formulas. The food my two have been on for 3 years was recently changed and they both started looking awful, excessive shedding and dull, dry fur. I changed their food and the shedding stopped and their coats are bright and shiny again.
