Since it was only me going to the Chow Fun Day, I took Shiloh - at the Chowfest last year, Mr. N wasn't as sociable so I thought Shiloh would get the most out of the party - especially since she would remember Ms. PB, Leo, and Kodi from Ladies Day at the Beach...I can't handle both Mr. N and Shiloh by myself. Ms. Pooh Bear and Shiloh are such gal-pals - especially since Ladies Day at the Beach. Stupid me, I was running late to get to Kodi's that I forgot the most important thing - my camera - doh!! Anyway, Lou and I caught Ms. Pooh Bear and Shiloh exchanging some Chowenese..they stood next to each other - Shiloh whispering to Ms. PB in her ear and Ms. PB whispering back into Shiloh's ear. I think they were discussing Benny's sauve appearance - or maybe they were doing the heads/tails thing on who had first dibs with Benny?

Chow Fun Day was an event that I hope others can experience...imagine walking into a Chow friendly home (thank you, Ms. Kodi), going to the back yard, and removing the leash and having them mingle with so many other Chowdren and their parents. It was like being at a kid's birthday party. The Chowdren were running about in the backyard, then into the house and back out again...getting treats from all the different parents.

I was so amazed that all of these Chows plus Lady just went about enjoying themselves!

Can't wait for the next event! Anyone remotely thinking about having a Chow feast should do it. It's soooo much fun - not just for the Chowdren but for the Chow parents, too!

Karen

PS - Lady is such a lovebug - so many kisses and just loved all the Chowdren and parents.

Just a couple more photos from Saturday's day of Chow Fun!

The chow of honor, Benny!

Image

And, if this can be inpiration for everyone on the site to get together, please do so. Be amazed at how our chows walked, ran and zoomied around leash free and got along famously! Prove to us Northern Californian's (and one Texan) that this is not a chow fluke!

Image
(L-R) Shiloh, Miss Pooh Bear, Kodi, Leonora, Teddie, Boogie, Lady and Benny

Mr. B (Bubba) ... would you like me to copy the zoomie on a CD and mail it to you? I will, just e-mail me or PM me your address. You have my private e-mail address.

Bama ... the Chow Fun was hosted by Kodi and her parents. The day was held at their backyard and in their home. There were many events! I heard there was "let's see who Benny will kiss first", "whisper in my ear, Shiloh", "let's run around and around and around", "how many treats can PB's mom pull out of her bag", "which one of us can snag a people treat from the people's table?", "who can squat more", "they didn't need this patch of grass anyway"... oh, there were lots of events that day!

Oh Judy, you have to play the video clip! Make sure your sound is on full blast! Tell me how the girls react to it.

AND, I just realized this about the chow guest list at ChowFun... all but Leonora were chow rescues! How about that?! Of course Lady was the Mistress of Ceremonies that day.

Karen, I wonder if Shiloh told all her secret to Mr. N when she got home... Mayeb she carried love letters to him, you'd better check! :D

I'm curious about a few things: 1) how did all the chows stay so gorgeously brushed???? Special's hair is like that for about a minute after I brush him and then he's playing and hair goes everywhere! :D 2) Did all the pups (including Lady) socialize the whole time? Or did anyone just say hi and then just kind of chill? I ask because Special can go either way, depending on his mood. Sometimes he's a play monger and other times, a simple hello is enough.

Well, you know, Benny had Miss Pooh Bear "foaming in the mouth"! Very handsome fellow that Benny!

Safe travels back home to the three of you!

Benny was a little bit of a wallflower, but he warmed up a couple of times. Most of the others seemed to go at it non-stop, with maybe a few rest breaks. Baby Leo definately wanted to play, but needed to stay off her leg. Her Dad had to spend some time just holding her in his lap. Other observer may have a different view. All in All it was quite a day! :D

Lady was, as always, the total party girl. I'm surprised she doesn't get calluses on her tongue.

Special's Mom, what I observed was they all got along together, played with each other, went off in two's or three's to explore the backyard or inside the house, some snuggled together and the most wonderful thing is that no one fought or there was no mean growling and they all seemed to love each other's parent/s. Lady was a real love bug and gave us kisses when our cheeks were close to hers. When treats were passed, the ones who already knew each other would wait patiently and yielded to the newer chows and Lady. It's really something to see and experience. Shiloh is very gentle and sweet and she would wait to the side of the crowd to see if the treats were to her liking. If they were, then perhaps she will take one. If not, then Teddie was right there to enjoy it!

This was their first official "off leash" gathering. The other two we had, they were all on leash and at times tethered together. Four of the chows knew each other from the past events and Boogie, Teddie, Benny and Lady were first timers. When PB came in fashionably late, they all greeted her with sniffs and whispers and let her roam on her own and they basically did what we people do at parties, mingle!

Lady was such the lovebug - she had kisses for everyone! Anytime I got near her I was able to get a kiss or two - sometimes more! Shiloh totally enjoyed the event - even though she was quite stubborn about the group photo! Imagine all of the chow parents and chowdren set and ready for the camera, whilst I was running about after Shiloh pleading with her to come...At the last moment she relented and let me pull her into the picture.
Shiloh is very selective for the most part and only
"lightened up" when Lou offered her a treat. Lou and Shiloh definitely have a gal-pal type of understanding.

The Chowdren were just great! Having all of them off-leash without any incidents was fantastic!

I went back and looked at the page I did of Benny, and compared it to the fest photos. Jerryo, he is stunningly handsome. He has flourished in yours and Lady's love and care. You should be very proud of him.

Thanks Auddymay. Not bad for a $10 pound hound.
I think he's pretty cute myself, but his gentle personality is his best feature. I have never met such a sweet natured creature. (Sorry, I sound like a proud parent. :D Oh, wait, I am.)
