OPERATION...."SWEET HOME ALABAMA"

Post by Sharons Chows »

Sure wish that I could put the audio on this one!!!

"SWEET HOME ALABAMA" has begun!! =D= \:D/ :x
I just got the call from Alan.....they are one their way!
Simba has parked himself on the middle console and is trying to lick Alan all over and he is doing the "Chow snort". Oh how precious and wonderful this all is
Alan said that he is a real keeper....so adorable...so sweet. He said that he was such a good boy and so outgoing also.
Looks like The JR's and Princess Cheyenne just adopted themselves a new cousin.
Bama and Mark watch out...we may all be visiting you one of these days.

By the way when I hung up the phone with Alan....he and Simba were having a good discussion in Chowenese!!!

Sharon,
I know the meeting place has changed from Columbus, but I don't know where to?
What did you guys decide?
Isn't this amazing? Sharon has done such a great job coordinating OPERATION ALABAMA, that I have to ask her what the next step is!!!

SIMBA........BACKGROUND/ HISTORY

Last night I spoke to Jan, the sweet lady who found Simba wandering the streets alone.
Here's what she shared with me...

Jan was walking her basset hound, Emma Peal when Simba walked up to Emma with his tail wagging. Simba was smitten with Emma P. He sniffed her and gave her a kiss.
Jan noticed that he didnt have a collar, so she asked two guys walking nearby if Simba was their dog.
They said no, but they have seen Simba wandering about scouring for food over the last two weeks.
Immediately, Jan knew she had to save Simba. But, when she reached for him...zooooooooom, he ran like the wind!
Jan knew she had to find him, so she took Emma P back home, then went back to look for Simba.
She and the two guys chased Simba, but Simba said, "eat my dust, I'll never settle down" and off he went. Simba ran to a tree by the lake, where he dug a hole and laid down. Jan thought, I'm not losing you again Mr. Smarty pants! So, Jan went back home to get Emma P to see if SHE could talk some sense into this roving bachlor! Of course, Simba could not resist the charms of Miss Peal! Miss Emma Peal, being the proper lady that she is, was determined to not be kissed and dismissed by anyone, much less this pretty chowboy casanova!!! "GGRRROOOOOOOOWL...Oh behave," Simba said at the sight of the captivating Miss Emma Peal! "Captivating" being the key word here!
With her nose held high and her human in tow, Miss Emma Peal lured Simba all the way back to the enclosed swimming pool area of the highrise, where Jan and Emma P live.

Being a weekend, the shelters were closed, so Jan gladly committed to caring for Simba until the shelter opened on Tuesday.
Jan was standing in the pool area with Simba, trying to calm him, when the highrise security guard walked up with a rope and said, "that dog is coming with me". Jan said, "no he isn't". The arguement got heated, as Jan was determined to protect Simba! The security guard said, "that dog is not staying here, I'll shoot him"!! Jan, protected Simba and said, "oh no you're not!" Jan then called the police.
The police came, and the Chief of police called the security guard and told him to go back to his post, "the dog is staying in this ladies care until the shelter opens on Tuesday, end of story"!
Jan shared with me that once caught, Simba spoke to her, he wanted to have a home and be loved. Simba rolled, belly up for Jan, "will you help me find someone who will love me...and who gives good belly rubs," Simba said. Jan vowed to do just that!
Jan wanted so much to keep Simba, but she could not.
So, Tuesday morning came, Jan took Simba to the only shelter around.

Jan called the shelter everyday to follow up on Simba and to make sure the shelter wasn't going to put him to sleep and that they were actively looking for Simba a home.
One day, Jan called to ask the shelter director to please feature Simba during the adoptive pet segment of the local noon time news. That's when the shelter director told her that Simba is being adopted!
Jan was happy, with some reservations, "who are these people who are adopting Simba, and how do we know this is a good home", Jan asked the director.
This led Jan to me! After my long phone visit with Jan, we she was so happy to hear that Simba is coming to a happy home where he will be spoiled rotten!

So, you see....Jan and Emma Peal are Simba's guardian angels. Thanks so much to Jan and Emma Peal, they saved Simba, giving him a second chance at a wonderful life!

Sherill
Thank you so much, Jan and Emma Peal!!!

I think I'm gonna cry, and I'm an old cranky guy!

Now we know why you had to go through so many problems to get to this point -- You were reserved for Simba! :D :x

I just got an update from Sharon...and Alan:

Sharon is at work and keeping me via telephone...girl, be careful, we don't want you to get caught by the boss!!

Simba and Alan have stopped along the road for a quick break. Then back on the road!
Simba is in the front seat with Alan, helping him drive.
It seems Simba is a verbal little chowboy. Not a barker, he's actually making coo like sounds!
So, there they go down the road, Alan driving, while Simba is filling Alan's ears with all the lastest shelter gossip!!!

My hubby, Mark is enroute to meet them. They will meet on the south side of Columbus, OH.
Get back to you then, after I've heard from Sharon!!!!
Stay tuned!!!

WOOT WOOT!!! It's a gorgeous day here in Ohio, so I know they will have a fantastic journey!

I hope they get through Cincinnati before rush hour, but on a pretty day like this and being a Friday, I imagine traffic will be a little slow from now until 7pm.

Good luck! I can't wait to see the homecoming pics!

Mark and Alan are almost caught up to each other.

Alan is totally smitten with this Chow. He said that he looks much more like the shorter, flat faced European Chows and that he is sooooooo handsome.
They stopped for a "pooh" break and Alan was very pleased with the nice healthy results. He gave Simba a nice natural made in America salmon treat and has kept his water bowl filled. Alan also has this brushing "thing"...so he brushed him so that he would be nice and soft and untangled to meet his new Mom and Dad. Alan says that he was blowing his coat like crazy and was so good.
Simba presently is sitting in the front with Alan...such a softie Alan can be....and all Simba wants is to petted all the time...and squeaks when Alan stops.
So far Simba has had his teeth massaged...his head massaged and of course his belly rubbed. Alan checked his hips out and says they feel great and that he is a real strong little boy and just a real love bug. They also took a 15 minute walk and Alan said that he doesn't pull at all and shows no signs of abuse.

I just wonder how my two, much less behaved, fur kids are going to react when Dad comes home smelling like Simba...should be rather amusing..especially with Mr. Jealous JR

Until the next report!

The journey now begins the 2nd leg.

Alan just transferred Simba to new Dad Mark, our resident pilot.

I do know that Alan got really attached during his pick up and drive 4 hour time period.

So for now until I download the pictures when I get home....our part of this wonderful journey has ended.

Thanks everyone for such wonderful support.

Hugs to you Sherill for trusting us so much!! It was great!

What a wonderful bunch of people helping a chow to find his forever home. Here in Ontario the weather is sunny, dry. I hope that Alan has a good rush hour free dry roads drive home. Simba sounds like a real gem. Isn't it amazing how a little bit of happiness can be had without a lot of money? Karin

Alan and Sharon,

There are no words to express how deeply grateful Mark and I are to you guys for all your help.
Anytime, you guys want to come to visit us, we will roll out the red carpet for you!!!

I'm was sweating there for a while, I believe thoughts of taking Simba home with him were dancing in his head like sugar plums!!!

My sweet hubby, Mark just called:
Mark says, "what a sweet chowboy, I'm already getting licky licks". Mark says that Simba thinks he is really a giant cuddly Shih Tzu!!! He doesn't know he is so big!

Mark will drive through to Nashville, TN tonight and spend the night there with daughter, Ashley.
Saturday morning, the journey continues on home to B'ham!!

bama, this Simba trip is driving me crazy. The suspense. Now you won't see your chowboy till tomorrow? You maybe able to talk to Simba over the phone?

I can't get this song out of my head. This is the part which is driving me crazy, I walked Mikki earlier, this song is playing in my head. Now I am home trying to get some work done, can't get the song out of my mind

"Sweet Home Alabama" by rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd --anybody else here with that problem? Karin

I have been singing it all the time since I came up with it all last night!!!
I always liked the song...now it has bigtime meaning.
And thanks to Karin...me.. MS. Music Trivia...just realized that it was Lynard Skinard in 1973 or 74 and not Alabama.

Poor Alan....I really do think that thoughts of bringing Simba home may have passed through his mind!!!! But Sherill and Mark already had dibs!

Nope Karin,
You're definately not the only one with that problem, I mentioned in another thread that I'll have that song stuck in my head all day and sure enough... Oh well, at least it's a good tune.

Bama,
Simba sounds like an absolute sweetie! You guys are so, so lucky to be getting him and he's even more lucky to be getting you.
