Having major problems with my puppys chest
This picture will say it all:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v518/ ... heddiw.jpg
No matter how much I groom it or wash it it never comes up nice and I am really worried about his skin as its always moist, surely it can't be good for him
I am at wits end of knowing what to do,I have baught him a bib but my sisters dog is with us (he's a 7 month old GSD) he takes it off,its really getting me down as he'd be the perfect looking dog if it wasn't for his chest,I have had chows who drool in the past but haven't owned a chow whos chest was never this bad, does anybody else have this problem and how on earth do you keep your chow looking good?
Sorry the image isn't very good but hopefully you'll get the idea of what exactly I am up against

What a beauty! Is the bib wet purely from drinking? If so, you may want to try a different type of water bowl.

This on only gets their snout into it.

You can try a couple of things.
1- give them a buddy style bowl one which they can not get there heads in.
2- if the skin is wet all the time it can cause problems you can dry them more often and use a baby powder to help dry up.
3- have them wear a bip(sp?) one like a baby would wear but bigger. if you need you can make one from a towel. I have a girl that has to wear one when showing as she is the same way always wet.

I have a question, is this something new or has she been like this all of her life? If it is newer , maybe a tooth problem is making her drool more. Or allergies can make them drool more than usual. Mine needs benedryl or her drooling gets really bad because she is also fighting the fact that her nose is dripping down her face faster than the can clean it. Making a bigger mess. Just a couple of thoughts there. I understand about the GSD , ours pulls our chowlings mane so it is tends to get sticky and I have to brush her out with a grooming spray everynight.
Good luck. I do hope someone here has an answer for you.

He's been like this all his life. If you look at this picture of him at 4 months you'll see his how bad his chest was then. But as he's getting older its getting worse. Is it possible for dogs to have over active syliva glands? I have noticed though if you say give him a piece of sausage he takes forever to eat it,like nearly 5 minutes,so maybe it could be his teeth?shandilady wrote:I have a question, is this something new or has she been like this all of her life? He problably would but again the GSD will problably knock it over. I kinda rish I never agreed to looking after him now for my sister But then it ain't the dogs fault, its mines fault for being so lazy and letting him do itcheriekynb wrote:Poor guy! As much as Sid is IN the water you would think that his chest would be wet all the time too, but, he's actually a "dainty" drinker, go figure..
This might sound silly but what about putting a fan down at his level? Do you think he would lay in front of it??

Sorry it has taken me so long to write more, I ended up taking a job w/ my vet and it has been abit busy.
It could the teeth. My Shandi has just started drooling alittle more but she is almost 4. Abit of benedryl seems to help dry her out some and make her feel better. Drooling is also sometimes a sign of an upset tummy but since your adorable baby has had it so long I would not think it was any of the things vets seem to think of first including licking frogs , Uck.
