How-to video??

Is there a how-to video on proper brushing of Chow's?? I brush Maggie once a week, but this week, I've been diligently brushing her every day. She's leaving big clumps in the house.

I used the blade on her first to get some of the loose stuff off. Well, I think I made matters worse. I keep brushing and brushing and brushing with the undercoat brush, but I just keep seeming to brush more fur out. My yard looks like I've skinned a chow out there... fur everywhere!

I also think I've irritated her skin or something because she's all flaky now. I have been spending about 30-45 mins brushing her for the last 4 days.

I'm determined to keep her brushed and not resort to shaving her down like I did our Sally. Her fur just didn't come back in the same as it was before.

HELP!!!

There is no "how to video" that I know of.

Use a technique called "line brushing". Lift up a section of coat and use your slicker brush. Every time you brush, you pull down another layer of hair, getting down to the skin. You may have to do this a few times in one area. Be careful not to do too much or too hard, you can brush burn the skin. Use a wide tooth comb and an undercoat rake afterwards to catch what the brush missed. Also, if you take your dog to a proffesional groomer, they use a high velocity dryer that will blow the undercoat out.

Next time one of you or some one grooms their Chow you should tape it and sell it on E-bay or cafe express. A good Video on how to groom a Chow showing the grooming products and techniques you use should make a few dollars.

There is all kinds of grooming books and video's but they are just dogs in general, mostly poodles, nothing on a Chow that I can find.

Don't forget to add the part where your chasing them threw the house with the razor in your hand.

But perhaps you should edit out the growling and snarling. We wouldn't want to further damage the chows reputation!! LOL

Intact females can have great fluctuations in coat quality, due to changes in hormone cycles, and you can see that same effect right after a spay. The stress of the surgery itself, is also reflected in the coat quality.
