tearing a lot??

tearing a lot??
hi all !
how are your chows doing??
my baby chow chow is getting big !!
as she grows, I have many concerns now..
her left eye tears a lot! she has the big
"tear spot" until her left cheek.
but the other side is clean! ( just little bit in front!)
last time we visited vet, he told us that her under eyelashes
are too close to her eyeball.( which is common for chows)
he said that we might have to do a surgery.
Is it why my chow's tearing a lot?
(but the right side's has same eyelash problem, but no tearing)
have any of your chows done this surgery before?
I will let her go for surgery if it helps,
but I also heard that, this operation might
change her eye shape...
and I don't want that! she's got perfect eye shape now!
plz help! I need your advice!

Re: tearing a lot??
We had the same problem with Rio, one vet said there was a problem and would have to operate. We went to a different vet and she gave us eye drops and then some steroid eye drops. Within 5 days the problem was gone, NO OPERATION. Now Rios face has grown out he has no problem at all with his eye.
I would ask for a second opinion if thats possible. If we had stayed with the first vet it would have been an operation that Rio did not need.

Re: tearing a lot??
The condition is called entropian eye. Do a search on here and you find plenty of info.

Re: tearing a lot??
Entropian can go either way in a young chow. How old is your chow? I suggest getting a second opinion, and if there's solid evidence your chow can't/won't grown out of it, you need to have the surgery done. And the sale of your chows eyes should be the last thought when they can go blind from this condition.

Re: tearing a lot??
Maggie's right eye was tearing when I first saw her and got some baloney excuse from the so called breeder that sold her to me. Took her to an animal opthomologist who stitched her eye without surgery, the stitches were left in for a couple of months with a couple of visits in between.I believe she had about 5 or 6 stitches and eventually they start to unravel and the last 3 were removed by the veternarian. The eye does not tear any longer and it looks just like the other one. IT WAS EXPENSIVE, I believe it cost me $600 but I'm glad It was done this way for I feared surgery would have changed the shape of her eye.
