Should I clean for ears

Should I clean your chow's ears or let it be? I asked my vet this and he informed me that I should not clean it since the natural oils will protect his ears?

What do you do?

this really has to do with checking the ears, and i mean frequently. Get him used to having you look at his ears. As he matures, you will need to move the fur around, get your fingers into place, and looking around.

If he plays outside at all, you will need to look for dirt. You should also look for mites (looks like dirt, just grainier), or excessive wax.

Chows have alot of ear hair, so ventilation can be a problem. Keep and eye on one side consistently being held lower than the other or a lot of head skaking. Listen, if he shakes, for any fluid like sounds.

If none of the above occurs, then just leave him, he is fine. Surface dirt on the ear tips should be cleaned off, anything else should be seen by his vet.
