Removing Mats

Post by PurpleKisses »

Chingers has a mat behind his ear, it is right against the skin. I think it is from all this wonderful rain we have been having. I have not noticed it until now. It is not real big(size of a quarter or so) but I can't seem to be able to brush it out or cut it out because it is right against his skin...... What is the best way to get rid of it?? This is the first mat he has ever had really.

Little By little comb it out. Start at the top of the mat and work down towards the skin as it combs out. The same as you would work on tangles in your hair. Sometimes if you rub a little hair conditioner (Tai prefers Pantene LOL) or spray a little detangler on the mat, that will help loosen the mat so you can comb/brush it out. I just always assumed the mats under the ears were because of their collars. Never thought about the weather.

Mr. N's groomer always uses a razor to remove any tight mats close to the skin. You might try gently pulling it apart with your fingers - may take a few sittings but you might be able to get it out.

Thanks! I will try the detangler and a comb first, then the conditioner, and if worse comes to worse I will shave it out but I would rather not.....

Conair makes a small razor comb (about 3 inches long). One side allows a closer cut next to the skin, the other side might be used to slice-away at the worst of the tangle. It's priced at about $3.
