Hernia ?? UPDATE!

I think Maggie might have a hernia. She was spayed in August and has been holding her tail down the last few days. Upon further inspection, I found something sticking out of her incision site that is all crusty. I made her an appt. at the Vet... I'm assuming she will have to have surgery again to correct this, right?

****** Kiwani was/is right... they said it was a scab wrapped in hair probably from a suture.

Oh No

By something sticking out of her incision...what do you mean??? Like what?? A suture perhaps, they can miss one or one can work its way to the top of the skin?? Is there swelling at the site?? Trying to figure out why you might think it is a hernia.....
Glad you made an appt with the Vet. Let us know what her Vet says.......

I don't know what it is... it's lumpy and crusty... I'm afraid it's something that is supposed to be inside.

My husband said her belly felt lumpy in the same area when he was rubbing it a few days ago...

feeling silly for not knowing this!))

She's was very playful this morning, even though I think she's in a bit of pain since sometimes her tail is down instead of curled up.

Rectal thermometer

above 103degrees is elevated temp.

'A firm, non-painful swelling under the incision that appears a few days or a week after surgery is fairly common, particularly in cats. This the body's way of working on the sutures, called a suture reaction. Some animals "react", some don't at all. These types of lumps can take several days or weeks to shrink to normal. If you are concerned, or if you see any redness, swelling, pain, or drainage from the incision, please call your veterinarian as soon as possible.'

hmmm... that is possible... she was spayed on 8-15 though... does that seem too long ago?

I don't think it's out of the ordinary to take that long, since the quality and amount of sutures play a role. Does it look anything like the 'suture reaction' photo on this link below?

Oh not nearly that bad!! I think you are right though. I'm still taking her to her appt. tomorrow just to be safe... especially since they are doing it for free. Thanks! I'll let you know...
