E-collar Alternative? - No-Bite Collar...Not for Eyes/Ears

Post by LEO's mum »

FYIO....The Pilates for Pooches Lady mentioned this to me yesterday, as I was trying to stop LEO from checking out the waiting room at the specialist with one hand, dangling an authodox plastic E-collar with the other. I don't see the need for one, as LEO's E-collar-less when on walks and when feeding now & happy enough to eat, drink & sleep and walk around w/ an E-collar inside the house. She hadn't seen the product but heard of this "NEW" product made by a SF company. You can see it on http://www.handicappedpets.com/acc/nobite/ . It might be useful for a dog that really is bothered by an e-collar. I remember LEO hating her 1st E-collar on walks as she could not smell the ground close enough....

Teddie had to wear an E-collar when we first got him and he would slam it into everything. He finally figured out how to catch it on the fence and rip it off. He was supposed to wear it for 5-6 weeks but I don't think he lasted 2 with it on and that was after I patched it back together several times. This looks like a great idea. It also doesn't show in their peripheral vision like the cone does. What a good idea.

So what do you do in Pilates for Pooches? Is it an excercise class?

collars/ chow chows

George had a cone to wear when he had cruciate surgery on both legs. We could not make him leave it on. He would thrash around like mad untill it came off. We have found keeping a constant eye on him to be an effective way to keep him from licking or biting himself. He is very spoiled, and hates physical restraint. He has a lovely personality with people and dogs, but I hate it when people say he's such a sweet chow, because they are implying that most aren't and I disagree with any kind of canine racism.

The Pilates to Pooches Lady is also the rehabilitaionist at the oethopedic surgeon. She was there in the reception area when I took LEO in yesterday to have her hotspot bit bandaged up. Looking at the pictures, she uses balls and mats to increase pooches balance & to build up muscle.... this is only my speculation from the pictures... It may be something much more deep....

The collar seems a good idea if you need of something long term-ish & constant. For now, LEO's E-collar goes on when I go to bed, so not for us, but I thought it might come in handy for someone for future reference....
