Hello all, I have an 12-year old chow chow, his name is Pasha. In the last 2 weeks he started licking his arms (front), both of them, and we couldnt find a hot spot or anything else on the arms that might irritate him.
I'm concerned that he might have pain in his arms like an arthritis or something, but could it be only in his arms but not the legs? Does anyone have such an experience? Any advice wuld be much appreciated. Thank you...

It could be pain and/or arthritis related. I would take him to the vet for a check up and possibly X-rays to see what's going on. My Shug is 10 y/o now and I have noticed him being a little stiff in his front legs if he has been laying down awhile so it can be a front leg issue. Dogs lick for a variety of reasons, from boredom to stress to pain so get him checked. It may be nothing or it may be time for a little pain management in his old age.
